How Much Money Does Fabrizio Romano Earn?

Whether you agree with his premature transfer spoilers or not, there is no doubt that the extraordinary sports journalist Fabrizio Romano is absolutely exceptional at what he does.

Very rarely failing to predict an upcoming football transfer through is ‘Here we go!’ tag line, the Italian is a presence in the sport like no other.

This has led Romano to gain quite the social media following in recent years, across platforms he regularly posts his transfer updates on. He has now racked up over 80 million followers across his pages and with the sharp financial rise in social media, we would all assume that the 32-year-old is well heeled.

But how much does Fabrizio Romano actually earn? Is the social media coverage and frequent brand deals paying as much as we think?

How Did He Build His Brand?

Fabrizio’s career in journalism kicked started while he was still in high school in 2009. It was reported that the then 16-year-old had been receiving tip-offs from an Italian agent about former Barcelona youth player Mauro Icardi.

Romano then joined Sky Sports Italy in 2012, linking with many clubs and agents around Europe to display any transfer rumours. Through his increasing popularity, he then started to create his own social media content, to build an audience of his own.

Due to his immense reliability in the sport, his content blew up. With help from his “Here we go!” catchphrase, Fabrizio grew more and more popular and stacked a colossal following online.

To this day, he still continues to flourish. He is the go-to reporter when it comes to football transfers, as his success rate implements a lot of trust from his viewership.

What Are Fabrizio’s Sources Of Income?

Like many sports journalists, Fabrizio Romano has many streams of income through what he does. In terms of social media, he is pretty much tapped in with every stellar platform.

He works the systems and algorithms perfectly, opting for different content forms depending on the platform. The expert shares very simultaneous, short-form videos on his Instagram and TikTok pages, followed by snappy, informative posts on Twitter. He then also creates longer and more detailed videos on his YouTube channel.

TikTok is generally the platform Fabrizio gains the most views on, due to its immense reach to the viewership through the ‘for you page’ feature. However, Instagram is the site in which he obtains the most followers on. This means that his viewership on Instagram is extremely high also, but because the app generically only reaches out to an account’s followers, it often only stays within that realm.

Twitter is similar to TikTok in that Romano’s tweets can pop up on anybody’s timeline, attracting a lot of traffic to his page. Whereas YouTube is the most unique and hardest to gain views just through its longer content.

Altogether, these networks allow him to monetise his content through advertisements and creator schemes, which bolsters the journalist’s income.

Fabrizio also makes a fast buck for his work for different media outlets. He often does freelance work for the likes of Sky Sports, CBS Sport and The Guardian, featuring in their live shows or articles. This gives him an extra bonus on top of his social media.

The transfer extraordinaire also owns a podcast called the “Here We Go Podcast,” posting transfer roundups as an alternative news factory for his viewers. Alongside social media, this podcast allows Fabrizio to advertise many brand deals on his pages. He has worked with brands such as Adidas, Heineken, NordVPN and Turkish Airlines.

Finally, he also owns his own merchandise range, labelling his trademark “Here we go!” brand.

How Much Does This Make Him?

Heading straight to the point, Wtfoot reported Fabrizio Romano’s net worth as £1.6 million (€2m) back in 2023. Of course, it is worth taking these numbers with a pinch of salt, as nobody truly knows how much the number one journalist actually makes.

Furthermore, Fabrizio has grown since 2023, leading us to believe that his net worth has appreciated since then.

According to Hafi - a site that uses an exclusive algorithm and valued metrics into their calculations - Romano’s annual income is somewhere between £3 million (€3.5m) and £4.2 million (€4.9m). Seeing these figures would suggest that his net worth has significantly increased in the last two years.

They also calculated Fabrizio’s income for the last month at being around the £260,000 mark, with Instagram playing the largest part towards that figure. His estimated income from Instagram for the last month hovers around the ballpark of £200,000, with TikTok and YouTube both paying less than a quarter of that number.

The metrics, as previously mentioned, to calculate these numbers include subscriber and follower counts, as well as his engagement and viewership rates.

How Do These Figures Compare to traditional journalists?

It goes without saying that the number one in an industry is likely to be the highest earner and by way of a landslide. That certainly seems to be the case for Fabrizio Romano, with him blowing the average sports journalist salary miles out of proportion.

The average sports journalist in Europe earns between £27,000 (€31k) and £33,000 (€38k) per year, demonstrating just how large a gap Fabrizio has created for himself.

It is definitely worth noting that the journalism industry is gargantuan. There are many people who have created quite the reputation for themselves and are therefore booked as freelance for many large outlets – often paying good money per gig.

However, to put Fabrizio’s salary into context, he earns more than the average Premier League footballer, let alone journalist.
