Lion in Wait - How Millwall Have Got Themselves Inches Away From the Premier League

A side from London. Often hated by many, especially those who support West Ham. However, even the people who dislike them have to appreciate them this season. They are on the verge of being back in the topflight of English football after 40 years away.

After being promoted to the Championship in the 2016/17 season, they would see an 8th-place finish. It looked as if they would see promotion quickly after that. However, it wasn’t meant to be. Multiple finishes in and around the promotion places; however, nothing could get them into it. They saw heartbreak last season, finishing 8th once again, just 2 points away from promotion places. However, this looks to finally be over.

This season was different. A first-game win against Norwich started them off well. However, it wasn’t until October that they finally found a stride, winning all of their matches that month. They would then find another run of form in late November. However, 2026 has truly been their year. Since the turn of the year, they have won 10 matches and are pushing into the promised land.

Tonight, they will play their 42nd game against West Brom and if they take all 3 points, they will be in second. The place they will be dreaming of holding for the rest of the season, allowing them into the Premier League and playing in the top flight once again.

It looks as if Joe Edwards has truly got Millwall clicking this season. They have been strong at the back as a unit while being very efficient going forward. They have made sure that they have been able to take their chance when they appear and limit wastage.

Could this finally be their season? Getting back into the top flight of English football?
