Liverpool 2025/26 Season Preview

Liverpool Detailed Season Preview: Insights and Predictions

Where Did Liverpool Finish Last Season?

Premier League champions for the second time in their history, Liverpool fans were left rubbing their eyes and questioning their reality as Liverpool ran rampant in the 5-1 win over Tottenham that clinched the title - surely this couldn’t be possible? We’ve lost Jurgen Klopp, we’re not supposed to win anything, are we?

It all depends on context - losing Jurgen Klopp could by itself have been viewed as a major blow, one that could have taken a number of seasons to bounce back from. However, when paired with the insatiable hunger and other-worldly talent the Liverpool squad possesses, there was only ever going to be one outcome. Arne Slot came in, took the reins, and immediately showed the Premier League what he was all about - relentless pressing, restraint in possession, and obsession over controlling the ball.

The Liverpool players loved it - Mo Salah had the best season of his career, notching 34 goals and 23 assists across all competitions, while players such as Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz all vaulted themselves in arguably world class conversation. Slot brought the best out of the squad last season, and now with a summer of A-list arrivals, the team is now starting to take shape in Slot’s vision - a scary prospect for the 19 other teams.

It would be insenstive not to mention the tragic loss of Diogo Jota. The death of the Portuguese striker, who played 37 games and scored nine times last season under Slot, totally halted excited celebrations, and football fans, both of Liverpool and the world over, came to terms with their own mortality. Diogo and his brother Andre's passing reminded us that at the end of the day, football is just a game - these tragedies can afflict anyone regardless of fame, fortune or profession.

So to Diogo Jota, thank you, and rest in peace. Liverpool fans, we stand with you.

Who is Liverpool’s Manager for 2025/26?

Premier League champions, and becoming that in some style, it was amazing to watch how quickly the Liverpool squad adapted to Arne Slot’s approach so soon after the departure of club legend Jurgen Klopp. The Dutchman, relatively unknown across much of Europe, would have initially been brought in as one for the future, with little or at least less success in his first couple of seasons.

Now, all that has changed. By achieving such high standards from him and his side in his first campaign on the job, Arne Slot now has a reputation to uphold. His side was relentless - they would rarely win heavily, it seldom looked as if the points were going anywhere other than Anfield. And it also appears the Dutchman’s demeanour and approach to his squad play’s a big role. Known throughout the Liverpool camp as a “very likeable guy”, it was Slot who convinced record signing Florian Wirtz to join the club prior to his £100 Million plus add ons move from Bayer Leverkusen.

It seems Slot is the complete package - he has the tactics to rivals Guardiola, Mourinho and even Klopp in their prime, a door that is always open to his players and staff, and most importantly, an incredibly driven personality, the sort that will keep him at the club for the next decade, and perhaps more. You are luckier than you know, Liverpool fans.

Who is Liverpool’s Player to Watch?

Mohamed Salah

Of course it was going to be Salah. Even the nine-figure arrival of German wonderkid Wirtz, who had a stellar final season in Germany, was not enough to usurp Liverpool’s “Egyptian King” as their key player.

After finally being offered an acceptable contract in April after a year of speculation over his future, the Kop, and perhaps even Salah himself let out a sigh of relief - neither would be whole without the other, and it is easy to see why. Ever since his move to Liverpool in 2017, Salah has been nothing short of world class - in his eight seasons at the club, the winger has amassed 245 goals across all competition, putting him third in Liverpool’s all-time goalscoring charts (although still over 100 behind the legendary Ian Rush).

However, 2024/25 was a different beast altogether. Seemingly Salah’s final form, he couldn’t miss - every time he went through on goal, the result seemed to be a forgone conclusion. And then there was his playmaking: 23 assists in a season is just absurd, the sort of numbers that only Lionel Messi could realistically produce. With 57 goal contributions in all, Salah has put his name right in the thick of the Ballon d’Or discussion, and although he may not win it, it will go down as one of, if not the greatest individual season in Premier League history. We are already excited to see him back in action in August.

Liverpool 2025/26 Season Prediction

The easiest choice of the lot, very few can see a world in which Liverpool fail to defend their title this season, particularly given their high-calibre arrivals and savvy sales. Replacing the ever-entertaining but inconsistent Darwin Nunez with Hugo Ekitike appears to be an early stroke of genius, while amassing over £60 million for the wanaway Luis Diaz will certainly help the reds in their late pursuit of Alexander Isak from Newcastle.

The fact is, Liverpool have won this seasons summer transfer window. Many sides have spent heavily and brought in outstanding individuals, but very few sides have manage to balance the books with equally hefty sales, something which Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has shown himself to be rather handy at. There could be a couple of early slip ups as the revamped Reds' encounter some teething problems - counter-attacks in particular could be an issue, with both Frimpong and Kerkez preferring to go forward from their wide positions rather than defend - but these will be formalities to overcome, and with Arne Slot at the wheel, they will not be allowed to persist.

With a front line of Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo and Ekitike, and with the potential arrival of Alexander Isak still to come, Liverpool boast possibly the most formidable attacking unit in all of Europe. If their defence does prove to be a weakness, their firepower in the final third will mitigate that brilliantly. Barring serious catastrophe, Liverpool look dead-set to win their first ever consecutive Premier League titles.
