Scores for every pundit have also been found and calculated by the media intelligence platform Meltwater.

Danny Murphy is someone who has received a lot of criticism so far during the World Cup. Many fans online have voiced their dislike of his takes during and after games, as they see him focusing heavily on the negatives rather than maintaining a neutral view of the game.

With help from the media intelligence platform Meltwater, we can see that Danny Murphy has received a 35% negative review score from online fans.

Emma Hayes

Hayes has been a highly divided figure this summer. She has drawn both positive and negative reviews. Her tactical analysis has been her main area of division. While her supporters say she has given a clear and digestible way of understanding complex tactical decisions, others have questioned some of her opinions on her analysis. This divide has been reflected in the ratings calculated by Meltwater.

She is the only pundit on this list to appear on both the positive and negative lists. She scored a respectable 26% positive rating, placing 8th; however, she also received a 41% negative rating, placing her 5th.

Rather than some ex-players who are able to break down analysis using simpler language, Cann has sometimes been limited in this area. This has led to him scoring among the top 10 highest negative ratings at this summer’s World Cup.

Cann has been calculated to be the 4th most disliked pundit this summer, with a negative score of 42%.

Carney came into the World Cup with some fanbases already having an opinion on her, but this summer she hasn’t been able to change many people’s perceptions of her. She is often seen as trying too hard when analysing a game. It feels more forced than natural, and many people have been quick to voice their dislike of this on social media.

After Meltwater’s analysis, she scored a 51% negative rating and is the 3rd most disliked pundit by fans on social media.

Duncan Ferguson

While a great player, Ferguson has seemed to have left a sour taste in fans’ mouths after his appearances on the World Cup panel for ITV. A mixture of controversial takes and a seeming inability to be positive about certain players or nations has left fans less than impressed.

In combination with a lack of chemistry with the other pundits, he sometimes feels like a solo act in a group performance.
