Nottingham Forest Closing In On Four Signings In Record-Breaking Flurry
After exceeding expectations last season Nottingham Forest are looking to back up their 7th place finish with another strong outing this campaign. However the club has struggled in pre-season, managing to score only one goal in the build-up to the 2025/26 Premier League season. Therefore the club has taken drastic action in the transfer market to try and rectify the situation, as they are the verge of making four signings which will boost their attacking options.

James McAtee, Omari Hutchinson, Arnaud Kalimuendo and Douglas Luiz are the quartet that have been heavily linked to the Nottingham based club. The first three players of that list play in more advanced positions on the pitch, which will give manager Nuno Espírito Santo a whole host of options to choose from.
On Thursday it was reported that Nottingham Forest had agreed a deal to sign Manchester City’s James McAtee for a fixed fee of £22m, with the potential to rise to £30m with add-ons. Sell-on and buy-back clauses have been included in the deal, which has been given the infamous ‘HERE WE GO!’ by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. The 22-year-old has the potential to be a great addition to Nuno’s squad having already showcased his quality with his time with the Citizens.

Earlier in the day it was also confirmed by Romano that Omari Hutchinson will leave Ipswich Town and join Nottingham Forest. David Ornstein has announced that the fee will be worth £37.5m. The 21-year-old is another player who has a bright future ahead of him, having already racked up experience both in the Premier League and on the international stage. Hutchinson scored in the U21s Euros final to help the Three Lions retain the title, showing his quality and ability at a young age.

Nottingham Forest are also heavily linked to Rennes striker Arnaud Kalimuendo with the deal set to be confirmed in a matter of days. The French international scored 18 goals last season and shows the signs of being a great companion to veteran forward Chris Wood. The two players offer different options due to their contrast in playstyles and abilities, giving Forest more versatility in the No.9 position.

The final player on this list is defensive midfielder Douglas Luiz, who would compete with the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson. This competition for places is exactly what Forest need in order to get the best out of their players. Luiz also has experience in the Premier League with Aston Villa, making him less of a risky transfer compared to other defensive midfielders.

These transfers come at a much-needed time for the Tricky Trees, who lost one of their most valuable players in Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United earlier in the window. The Swedish international left Forest for £55m, explaining why the club can splash the cash on a plethora of new players.
The Reds have also struggled to score goals in pre-season, scoring only one goal in seven games. A worrying statistic for any club, yet alone a team who will be competing in European football as well as fighting for another European spot in the Premier League.
With Europa League football on the horizon, it’s crucial for the club to have strength in depth as they won’t be able to sustain playing in multiple competitions otherwise. This is where this surge of urgency has come from, as Nuno has expressed how the club aren’t prepared for the upcoming season.
"We are very far - very, very far - from where we should be. We are very far in terms of preparation, in terms of planning, in terms of the squad.” said Nuno when talking to Sky Sports.
"So we are all very worried that in two or three days time we are playing for the Premier League, the most demanding competition in the world. And we are very far. Very, very far.”
However with two transfers already being confirmed in the space of 24 hours, it shows that Nottingham Forest mean business. Nuno will be pleased with the efficiency and quality of these transfers as it will allow their new signings to be integrated into the squad with only a few game weeks of football being played. This should help end their goal scoring drought right as the Premier League season gets underway.
