Our 'Team of the Round' For the Batshit Mental Round of 32

We have made it into the last few matches of the World Cup. The round of 32 for the first time ever is done and dusted. However, there were some exceptional performances. Therefore, we need to go through every position and see who makes this rounds team of the round.

This team will be put into a 4-3-3 formation to get a good even spread of every position and making sure only the best of the best from this round gets in.

Orlando Gill – Paraguay

We start this off with a player from a nation that has now changed public opinion. While Paraguay won fans over the world by how they played against Germany, after last night they lost many fans.

That doesn’t stop the fact that this man had a very good game. In the 120 minutes played he made 6 saves while only conceding 1 goal. However, his heroics came in the shootout. He saved 2 penalties and was the hero for Paraguay.

For this reason, he had to make this team.

Marc Cucurella – Spain

The man who Real Madrid signed so they had the player in the Spanish national team. Cucurella showed why the biggest team in the world wanted him. In a game against Austria, who aren’t easy to break down, he was the main man providing the chances.

With a clean sheet and 2 assists he was already in strong contention. When combing the fact these assists were both considered as big chances, he clearly showed how strong he is going forward.

Therefore, with 2 assists and a clean sheet he makes the side.

Gabriel – Brazil

While Brazil haven’t had the strongest defence this tournament. One of their defenders stepped up in the first knockout game. While he didn’t keep a clean sheet, he still had a strong impact.

With an assist to level the game up and strong defensive numbers, Gabriel had a strong game. He will be hoping to carry this on and find his immense for he had for Arsenal tonight as Brazil face Norway.

Lisandro Martinez – Argentina

Martinez is an interesting player as he isn’t making this team for his good defensive ability as expected for a defender. In fact, he was part of the defence that saw 2 go in against Cape Verde.

Martinez gets into this side because of his attacking contributions. He provided an inch perfect pass to Messi for Argentina to take the lead. He would then score the second goal to help them take the lead again.

With a goal and assist Martinez makes it in.

Pedro Porro – Spain

Cucurella is now joined by his fellow Spanish fullback. Porro had an even better game than the left back. While Porro didn’t manage to get 2 goal contributions he managed to contribute even more going forward.

With a goal and 5 chances created Porro makes this team as the right back.

Stephen Eustaquio – Canada

We now start our midfield and it’s with someone from one of the host nations. Eustaquio had a special game as he helped Canada go through. He was the driving force for a lot of Canada’s attacks and was the special something for them.

With 5 chances created and the goal that won the game for Canada Eustaquio makes this team and starts the midfield.

Youri Tielemans – Belgium

We go from someone who was a hero for their nation to someone who was a hero and savour for theirs. Tielemans was on a different level for Belgium when they needed him more than ever.

2-0 down and Belgium looked as good as out. That was until Lukaku got one back. Then it was Tielemans who levelled the game. Then in the last minutes of added time in extra time he was back again from the spot. Tielemans slotted away the pen and won the game.

A true hero and he makes the team.

Michael Olise – France

It’s shocking that it has taken 7 players before we finally get a French player into this side. However, Olise finally breaks that. This man is special. He is the creative force for France and has made magic happen.

Not only did he provided one of the best assists of the tournament, but he added a second to that. Olise has created so much for France that he might be as important for them as Mbappe. With 2 assists Olise had to make this team.

Mikel Oyarzabal – Spain

And completing the hattrick Spain have their 3rd player in this side. This time it is the man who scored their goals. While he struggled for a while to get much freedom when he finally managed it, he made Austria pay.

With 2 goals out of the 3 Spain scored Oyarzabal had to make this team.

Kylian Mbappe – France

Mbappe now joins Olise as France get their second player in the side. It’s has started to get boring now as almost every week Mbappe seems to have gotten better and better. Against Sweden was no different.

He managed 2 goals in this game and both of them were magic. The first he has Gyokeres on strings before smashing it into the net. The second goal was a bit of beautiful linkup player before Mbappe worked his magic and finished it off again.

Mbappe had to make this team.

Harry Kane – England

The savour of England. The man who made a nation believe again. England was 1-0 to DR Congo and by himself he changed the game. With a beautiful header that finally beat the keeper he levelled the game. Then in a moment of magic he blasted the ball in to take the lead.

Harry Kane saved a nation and that saved him a spot in this team to complete the team of the round.
