Premier League Christmas Countdown: Tottenham
Everyday, from now until Christmas Eve, we will take a look at a Premier League club and rate their season so far. Today, it is Tottenham’s turn to be put under the microscope as we continue our Premier League Christmas Countdown.
Ange Postecoglou wins things in his second season, so surely Tottenham will get a big trophy like the Carabao Cup this season, because they certainly aren’t going to be anywhere near the top of the table come May. They have been so poor in this campaign with just six wins from 15 games.
It was quite a slow start to the season for Tottenham. Their first match was away at Leicester on a Monday night, and it ended in a draw after Jamie Vardy equalised in the second half. Their next match was a 4-0 home win over Everton thanks to goals from Yves Bissouma, Cristian Romero and a Son Heung-Min brace.
Will Ange Postecoglou's @SpursOfficial end their 16-year wait for a trophy this season? 🏆❓#TheKickOff

However, as September rolled around, their results dried up a little, starting with a loss at St James Park. In recent seasons, Tottenham have struggled at Newcastle, but they dominated the ball and the chances this time around however they ended up losing 2-1. The North London Derby was next, and once again they lost.
Brentford were the next visitors to North London and despite conceding in the first minute, Spurs were able to win comfortably starting a possible new chapter in their season. It seemed as if they had, because next up was an important game against Manchester United, which they walked away comfortable winners. Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke all scored in that game.
Their first league game in October was a disappointing defeat to Brighton, although most weren’t too displeased with the performance because of the recent wins that they had managed. Sure enough, Tottenham returned to winning ways with a 4-1 win over West Ham.
It seems like in every season there needs to be a run of results from Tottenham that can only be described as Spursy. Their next match was against winless Crystal Palace, and you can guess what the result was. Not only did Palace win, but Tottenham, who had scored four in their last match, couldn’t even find the back of the net once. Then of course they go on to beat Aston Villa 4-1 in their next match.
Ipswich Town were the next visitors to North London, and they too were winless, so Spurs, being the generous team that they are, gave them their first Premier League win in over 20 years. A trip to the Etihad followed and they casually strolled up to the champions and gave them a 4-0 slapping.
Without the big guy we'd have been battered by Fulham, Bournemouth and Rangers

Hes made some big saves for us recently and I think he deserves some respect on his name after the initial fears when we heard Vic was out pic.twitter.com/5kQdTtzaIi
Surely having beaten Manchester City in their own backyard, the challenges of Fulham and Bournemouth would be light work for them. But no, they drew 1-1 with Fulham and lost 1-0 to Bournemouth. To make matters worse, they then lost to Chelsea and their Europa League form has fallen off a cliff. Usually their Spursy results last a few weeks, but it looks like it’s not going to stop any time soon.
There have been a few players who have been decent for Tottenham this season, but no-one really stands out. Solanke has been a good addition to the squad, Micky van de Ven has been good when fit, and Pedro Porro has come up with some important attacking contributions. Overall, I think that Kulusevski has probably edged it with his creative displays, but even he needs to step up his game to get Spurs out of this rut.
Season Rank: D
End of Season Prediction: 10th
