How Hazard SAVED Wayne Rooney!
Wayne Rooney has had a tough start to life as Plymouth manager this season. With three matches gone in the Championship, he has only one point to his name. He has changed the lineup every week and sports commentators around the country are backing his side to finish bottom.
That’s why it became a big shock that Plymouth held on to a good point away against QPR. Despite going one goal behind early, Plymouth equalised thanks to a wonder strike by Morgan Whittaker, but shortly afterwards they were reduced to 10 men with Adam Forshaw receiving his marching orders.
In steps Connor Hazard, not to be confused with Eden. The Plymouth Goalkeeper put out a performance that goalkeeping greats like Schmeichel would be proud of. He finished the match with a total of 9 saves from 10 shots on target and also faced 2.9 xG worth of shots, meaning he prevented roughly 2 goals from being scored.
Now Rooney lives to fight another day, but all the credit should go to his star Keeper. Hazard was rewarded for his performance by receiving the man of the match award and deservedly so.
Despite the positivity around Hazard and Whittaker’s individual brilliance, the dooming feeling circulating Rooney is only continuing to grow. The Manchester United legend has not shown any tactical nouse to prove his worth in the Championship and after his performance at Birmingham City last season, it’s a miracle he got the Plymouth job in the first place.
If Plymouth stick with Rooney they will need performances like this from Hazard every week as the tactical setup of his side is non-existent.
