We are finally there - the serious part of the World Cup. One game between you and elimination. So, with no further ado we will now predict who goes deeper into the knockouts and who will be heading back home.

Germany vs Paraguay

This should be a comfortable win for Germany. They have considerably more talent all over the pitch and have already shown what they can do. Their one issue could come in the form of a knock in confidence after the Ecuador game; however, it should still be a comfortable win.

France vs Sweden

While Sweden does have a very strong attack, they lack the defence, and this will be what kills them. France will have more than enough attacking quality to score multiple goals against Sweden. Therefore, this will be a win for France as they look to make a 3rd final in a row.

South Africa vs Canada

This will be a very close game. However, we predict that Canada will win this game. They have the star players that will have enough quality to be able to overwhelm the South Africa side. Therefore, Canada will move forward.

Netherlands vs Morocco

What a game this one is. The first knockout round we see 2 heavy hitters face. This is a very hard game to predict. However, we will just favour the Netherlands based on their defensive quality and them having a few more stars in their side. However, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Morocco win this.

Portugal vs Croatia

A few years ago, this game would be an unbelievable match this early on. However, while Croatia is still a strong side, Portugal just has that x-factor. The midfield will over run the game and allow Portugal to take the step forward in the World Cup.

Spain vs Austria

Back to the matches that should be easy to call. We are backing the champions of Europe in this one. While Austria has looked good in their first 3 matches, Spain will have the fire power to have a comfortable victory.

USA vs Bosnia and Herzegovina

This is a matchup that could cause and upset, however, unlikely. We expect the hosts to walk through and join Canada in the round of 16 with a comfortable win over Bosnia. They have the home support and more balanced squad so should be a comfortable win.

Belgium vs Senegal

This prediction might shock some people because we are backing Senegal in this one. Belgium have looked far from special so far this summer. They look to still be leaning on the players from the golden generation, and it just isn’t working. Senegal has the squad with more hunger and will more than likely take this fixture and win.

Brazil vs Japan

This is a game that Brazil should win and one we are backing them to win. However, if they underestimate Japan, they will be punished. Japan is far from a free game and could cause some problems for Brazil. We will still back Brazil for this game though.

Ivory Coast vs Norway

This is a very close game on paper. However, Norway has firepower that will cause issues for almost any nation in the tournaments Therefore, we are going with one of the dark horses going forward.

Mexico vs Ecuador

This could be a very interesting game. However, we are backing Ecuador. While they did struggle in their group, they weren’t bad. If they manage to convert their chances, they will cause issues. With their defensive core they will be very hard for Mexico to break down. That is why we are backing them.

England vs DR Congo

While England haven’t looked very convincing after the Croatia game, they should still win this game. Therefore, we are backing England to progress with their stars shining. However, if Congo defend like they did against Portugal they could cause issues for England.

Argentina vs Cape Verde

The fairytale will almost certainly come to an end unfortunately. Argentina will take this win comfortably and take the step in the round of 16 without having much of a scare.

Australia vs Egypt

This is a difficult game to call. However, we have decided to back Egypt. With the likes of Salah and Marmoush they will more than likely take this victory. While Australia was good in the groups, Egypt will have the experience in this situation and will know how to see out a game like this.

Switzerland vs Algeria

This will be a tight game and one that could go either way. However, we are just backing Switzerland to go through. Their minor amount of extra talent will be the deciding factor especially with experience from the likes of Xhaka to help them hold out on a result.

Colombia vs Ghana

This will be an interesting game. Both sides got goalless draws against the strongest sides in their groups. However, we are just backing Colombia. With their top talent such as Diaz, they have a player that can win them the game from nothing. That is why we are backing them.
