The Greatest Hits - The 5 Best Goals From the EFL's Opening Weekend

The EFL is back, and we have already seen a lot of goals. Some tap-ins and some worldies .So, what have been the best goals scored this weekend in the EFL’s first game week?

5. Thierry Gale vs Preston

We start this list off with a goal that doubled newly promoted side Bolton’s lead. It was a very well worked counterattack that saw a beautiful bending pass played to Gale on the wing. He would take it from the halfway line to the edge of the box. He would then square up his defender before cutting in and curling a beautiful effort into the far corner of the net. A beautifully worked goal and a well taken strike. That is the 5th best goal of the week.

This goal is in this list is less of the actual goal and more about the meaning. After being relegated from the Championship Luton would find themselves facing Reading. They would take a quick lead but before halftime be 3-1 down. Heading into injury time in the second half they had clawed their way back to a level playing field. Then Kodua would find himself free in the box after the ball hit the cross bar and tapped it home for the win. This goal was everything for Luton as they hope to head back to the Championship.

This was a beautiful solo goal. The ball was sent long by Watford and was defender by Southampton. However, after a poor clearance Bravo found himself being able to attack the box. He quickly had 3 men surround him but with a smart body faint managed to get past them. He would then take the ball wide as the keeper came out. With a bit of luck and a deflection off the keeper, it would find the bottom corner. A smart bit of play only ranked lower because of the slight luck it had going over the line.

This one is unlucky to not be top. QPR have a strong defence this season and it would take something special to score. That is what this goal was. After the first attack was dealt with the ball would be played to Devlin a few yards away from the edge of the box. He would take some time before taking a slight touch forward and hitting it. The ball travelled and dipped straight in the QPR net. It was a special hit and a gorgeous goal. However, can only finish second.

We have already had one goal from this game. However, this goal is even better. In their own attacking third Nabizada wins the ball back with a smart interception. He would then have his head go down and just run. Going from his own defensive third to the Saint’s byline. He would have a quick glance up and that’s all he needed. From the tightest angel he would slide the ball past the keeper into the net finishing a masterful run and a beautiful goal. The best goal this weekend by a mile.
