Kevin De Bruyne - Close behind is Kevin De Bruyne, who sits on 119 assists. His passing range and vision are second to none, with the Belgium being a pivotal asset over the years for Pep Guardiola's record breaking Manchester City side.

Again, had you asked me a year ago, he would have been a popular choice for your FPL side, but the midfielder bid farewell to the Premier League after completing a move to the Italian champions Napoli this summer.

Wayne Rooney - Known primarily for his goals, Wayne Rooney also had a sharp creative side, notching 103 assists in the Premier League. His vision made him just as dangerous as a provider. He’s retired from playing and is now building his career in football management.

Frank Lampard - Frank Lampard was more than just a prolific goal-scoring midfielder. His 102 Premier League assists prove he was a complete all-rounder. A Chelsea legend, he has since hung up his boots and moved into management, though his coaching career has been a bit more turbulent.

Seasons That Stunned: Premier League Assist Record in a Single Year

Some seasons transcend the ordinary; they become landmarks in football’s creative history. The Premier League assist record for a single campaign stands at 20, a total jointly held by Thierry Henry (2002–03) and Kevin De Bruyne (2019–20).

Thierry Henry's glittering 2002–03 campaign was one of the finest individual seasons the Premier League has ever seen. Not only did he provide 20 assists, setting the benchmark for creative output, but he also scored 24 goals, underlining his status as one of the most complete forwards in world football.

His ability to drift wide and dictate attacks made him virtually unplayable. That season cemented Henry’s reputation as a player who could not only finish with a sense of ruthlessness but also create scoring opportunities for those around him.

Kevin De Bruyne’s 2019–20 season was every bit as remarkable as Henry’s, matching his 20-assist tally and redefining what it meant to be a modern playmaker. Beyond the assists, the Belgian created 104 chances in the league, the most ever recorded in a single Premier League campaign.

His range of passing kept defences guessing at all times. In a Manchester City side built on fluid attacking football, De Bruyne was the orchestrator-in-chief, pulling the strings with efficiency.

Mesut Özil In 2015–16 came agonisingly close to breaking the single-season assist record, finishing with 19. His vision and creativity were the driving force behind Arsenal’s attack, often producing passes that seemed invisible to everyone else on the pitch until they were played.

Özil’s style was about timing and subtlety rather than raw pace or power, and he thrived when surrounded by intelligent runners. For much of that season, he looked certain to surpass Henry’s mark, but a slight dip in form during the run-in left him just one shy of the record.

Mohamed Salah: A Modern Playmaker Redefining Numbers

The 2024–25 season brought a fresh chapter to the most assists in Premier League history stories. Mohamed Salah ended the campaign with 18 assists, joining the elite group of single-season leaders.

Salah’s statistical impact illustrates the evolution of the modern forward. His expected goals and expected assists consistently rank among the Premier League’s highest, demonstrating an ability to arrive in the right positions at the right time and convert fleeting moments into decisive outcomes.

In Salah, Liverpool have a player who has adapted with the game. A true legend of the game who is now rightfully a two-time Premier League champion.

The Rising Stars and What the Future Holds

Even though Giggs’s record of the most assists in Premier League history remains daunting, players like De Bruyne and Salah are proof that modern playmakers are rewriting history. They’ve made the most assist in Premier League history race interestingly open.

The top assists Premier League narrative is now richer and more diverse than ever. Full-backs, wide forwards and midfielders alike contribute in creative ways that shift predictions and game plans alike. We may even see the Premier League assist record broken in seasons ahead.

Final Thoughts

Assisting is now celebrated as much as scoring, especially when its worth three points towards your FPL score. Ryan Giggs reigns supreme, but De Bruyne and Salah are modern proof that the assist record could one day be broken.
