The Top 5 Premier League players from outside the 'Big Six'
Let's change it up a little. Enough about Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City. Here are the best players in the English first tier outside the traditional 'Big Six'.
Jarrod Bowen
Jarrod Bowen has been by far West Ham's best player this season. His 14 goal tally in the Premier League means only Mohammed Salah and Erling Haaland have scored more than him in 2023/24. The forward cost the Hammers only £18.3 million back in 2020 and has more goals than Rasmus Hojlund and Raheem Sterling combined.
Thanks for the tactical awareness of David Moyes, Bowen is now not only a winger. The Englishman is also now a deadly out-and-out striker who is seriously knocking on the door for a starting spot at Euro 2024.
Joao Pedro
He may not have the highest conversion rate in the Premier League, but Joao Pedro's 19 goals in all competitions this season is remarkable for a player of only £30 million. In every game, the Brazilian has been Brighton's most fluid attacking player by a distance and will certainly secure a big move further up north in the near future.
Ollie Watkins
Watkins is one of the best strikers in European football on his day, and his heavily overlooked. Not only is he clinical, but he can finish in several different ways. Often strikers in the top flight are limited to the types of goals they can score. But Watkins, is a man that is deadly from every angle. 14 Premier League goals also for the 28-year-old this campaign. Superb.
Pascal Groß
Pasca Groß is ageing like a fine wine in the Premier League. The 32-year-old is the Seagulls' highest ever scorer in the top-flight and has the joint most assists in the league this season, with 10. There's a reason he's getting called up to the German national team at this age, and it's because he's simply fantastic.
He doesn't have the pace to compete with these younger box-to-box midfielders, but the technical ability on the man, allows him to rip apart opposition players.
Lean Bailey
Leon Bailey might just be the most underrated player in the Premier League right now. He's completely overlooked when it comes to elite forwards, but the numbers the Jamaican is putting up under Unai Emery is hard to beat. Eight goals and seven assists is a better return than several forwards in the 'Big Six'. The winger is charging Villa towards a record breaking season.
