Thierno Barry - We Watched Him So You Don't Have To

The French U21 international has just made his move from Villareal to Everton.

This could be one of the marquee signings of Everton's summer transfer window, as they look to add some goalscoring power after Dominic Calvert Lewin left the club.

Barry is certainly one for the future, with multiple qualities that could take him right to the top. In this article we will be looking at his career so far, and how he will be utilised in David Moyes's side this season.

His Career So Far

Beveren

After spending time in France for the reserve sides of SC Toulon and FC Sochaux, Barry joined Belgian outfit SK Beveren on a free transfer.

He netted an impressive 20 goals in 31 appearances, mainly playing as an out-and-out centre forward but occasionally moving over to the left flank.

He even played against current Everton defender Jake O'Brien, in a Belgian 2nd division play-off game. O'Brien played for RWD Molenbeek at the time.

Basel

With an impressive season in Belgium, Barry moved to Switzerland in 2023 for a fee of three million Euros.

He went on to score 20 goals and registered 5 assists in all competitions for the Swiss giants.

He also won the Swiss Super League and the Swiss Cup with Basel which earnt him to a move to La Liga side Villareal.

Villareal

The Frenchman joined Villareal for a reported fee of 14 million Euros, after his impressive season in Switzerland.

Barry cemented himself as a powerful centre forward who mainly played in a two striker partnership.

He registered 15 goal contributions throughout the season and helped earn his side qualification for the 2025/26 UEFA Europa League.

How Will He Fit Into Everton's Side?

It is certainly a signing that Evertonian's will be excited about, Barry has proved himself to be a talented striker who has bags of potential for the future.

The fact he played the majority of the season for Villareal in a strike partnership may mean that he could link well with Beto in the upcoming Premier League season. Both are tall, powerful strikers that could cause many problems for teams, if utilised correctly.

He seems to be the sort of player who roams between the penalty spot and six yard box, takes plenty of shots and goes for headers. Sort of similar to how Calvert-Lewin was used under Carlo Ancelotti. If he can play this role in Everton's side this season, David Moyes will definitely be pleased.

Could he be the one to replace Dominic Calvert Lewin? It remains to be seen, but he does possess all the aspects of a David Moyes striker. It's just the question of if he can transition to the pace of the Premier League, but his physical attributes suggest that this should not be a problem.

The only thing that could concern Evertonians, is the possible longevity he will have at the club. He has only spent a maximum of one season at his former professional clubs. This could mean that he could be willing to leave Everton if he performs well and the right offer comes in.

It's going to be interesting to see how Barry performs and here at Football Park we will be monitoring his progress closely.
