Three players Tottenham should sign after the Euros

After finishing 5th and securing Europa League football in his first season in charge Ange Postecoglou will be keen to improve his squad this summer. The Lilywhites enjoyed a season of ups and downs with injuries providing Ange with the evidence that his squad requires more depth to compete at the highest level.

It has already been a busy summer for the North London club with Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon and Japhet Tanganga all leaving the club after the conclusion of their contracts. Club record signing Tanguy Ndombele also left the club after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Euro 2024 is well under way with goals galore and a plethora of talent on display. Here are three players Tottenham should sign after the Euros.

3. Federico Chiesa

The Juventus and Italian winger would be a brilliant attacking addition to Tottenham this summer. With talisman Heung Min Son turning 32 next month it is time for Spurs to start thinking about his replacement.

Federico Chiesa would be a statement signing going into the 24/25 Premier League season. He is a versatile winger who primarily plays on the left but is also comfortable on the right. This flexibility would allow Spurs to rest Son Heung Min and Dejan Kulusevski in a season which will involve a more congested fixture schedule.

Chiesa is an exciting and tenacious winger capable of creating goal scoring opportunities for teammates or finding the back of the net himself. His pace and movement off the ball creates problems for defenders, in addition his energy and work rate are world class.

He is known for his defensive attributes which would be a perfect fit for Postecoglou who’s style of play demands intense pressing high up the pitch. Despite suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January 2022 which kept him sidelined for seven months, Chiesa has returned better than ever. Last season saw him record his best goalscoring campaign with nine goals in 33 appearances in Serie A.

Transfermarkt value Chiesa at €35 million which is remarkable value for a player of his quality. He impressed in Italy’s opening game at Euro 2024 and Tottenham representatives should be keeping a close eye on his performances throughout the rest of the tournament.

2. Breel Embolo

It would be fair to say Tottenham had found it difficult to fill the void left by the departure of club record goal scorer Harry Kane. Richardson has shown flashes of brilliance and has enjoyed goalscoring form at times, however it has become clear that he probably isn’t going to be the club’s striker in the long term.

Tottenham under the ownership of ENIC are not going to spend £100 million on a world class striker. Instead, they will look to cheaper alternatives and hope Postecoglou can improve and develop talent.

Therefore, the Monaco and Switzerland international Breel Embolo would be a shrewd piece of business this summer for the North London outfit. Embolo impressed in Switzerland`s opening game of Euro 2024 coming on as a substitute and scoring in their 3-1 victory against Hungary.

The Swiss international has been described as the complete striker with UEFA writer Steffen Potter describing him as “powerful, technically strong, and decisive. He has explosive pace and is a composed finisher.” These attributes would indicate that Embolo would easily adapt to the demands of the Premier League. His recent club career has been disrupted by injuries however his participation at Euro 2024 indicates he is getting back to his best.

Embolo would certainly add greater squad depth to Tottenham whilst easing the goalscoring pressure on Richarlison should the Brazilian opt to stay. The Monaco striker is valued at only €12 million and could be a very attractive option for the Lilywhites this summer.

1. Conor Gallagher

There has been much speculation about the future of the Chelsea and England midfielder with Chelsea reportedly keen to sell this summer. Tottenham have been heavily linked with Conor Gallagher although doubts whether Chelsea would sell to a London rival have emerged. There is no doubt that Gallagher would be a great fit for Tottenham and the style of play under manager Ange Postecoglou.

Gallagher is a dynamic box-to-box midfielder but is comfortable playing deeper or in a more attacking role. He is an example of an all-round midfielder, fierce in the tackle, an eye for a pass, and exceptional work rate.

The 23/24 season was a very successful campaign for Gallagher on a personal level, it saw him cement his place as a Chelsea regular captaining the side on many occasions. Statistically he enjoyed his best season managing an impressive 7 goals and 9 assists from the middle of the park. It has been reported that the departure of former manager Mauricio Pochettino was linked to Chelsea’s desire to sell Gallagher this summer.

A deal for the England international would be difficult due to the fierce rivalry between Tottenham and Chelsea however if the Blues are as keen to depart with Gallagher as reports suggest it may be worth pursuing.

According to Transfermarkt Gallagher is valued at €50 million, this would be a brilliant investment as he could be at the heart of the Spurs midfield for many years to come. At just 24 his best years are ahead of him, joining Tottenham would see him become part of an exciting project at N17 and would allow him to continue living in London. A deal would represent a statement of intent from Spurs, no one would expect the Chelsea captain to make a switch to the white side of London.
