Three Weeks of England?! Ten Things You Can do to Stay Busy Meanwhile

We’re only five gameweeks into the new Premier League season and already we have been slapped with an international break. To make matters worse, this pause from domestic football is three weeks long, leaving fans with the possibility of being bored.

However, I’ve come up with 10 ideas that will keep you occupied during this extended international break.

Take an interest in the Nations League

The UEFA Nations League, which was founded in 2018, was created to replace international friendlies with a more competitive style of football which fans could enjoy. The international tournament operates on a two-year basis, sandwiched in between the World Cup and the Euros of us European folk.

With there being three separate leagues, named A, B and C, there is a variety of football on offer for fans to enjoy. There are games being played on most days of the week, with the odd few days free from Nations League action.

With regular, competitive international football for the next three weeks, fans will have plenty of chances to keep their football urges satisfied.

Turn your attention to the EFL

With the Premier League and the Championship taking pauses in their schedule to allow for the Nations League, League One and League Two action marches on as normal.

The third and fourth tiers of English football provide fans with an opportunity to watch competitive, domestic football whilst the big boys are away. This also means TV coverage will be provided for selected games at this level, providing a new experience to fans of other clubs to watch different teams play.

Head down to your local

Whilst that might sound like I’m telling you to go to the pub, it’s not that far off what I’m getting at. Non-league football has always been held in high regard by us football fans, as it provides a community based and affordable way to watch football. That’s not even touching upon how entertaining the games are as well.

Wherever you may live, there will be local, non-league football at your doorstep, and now is as good as time as any to get involved in the beautiful game at the lower levels. You get to keep the social aspect of football by meeting up with your mates for a beer, all whilst enjoying live football from just a few minutes down the road.

Watch other sports

If none of the above tickle your fancy, then you can always divert your attention to another sport which interests you. The likes of cricket, rugby and Formula One are just a few examples of other sports on show during the international break.

If you aren’t already a fan of another sport, then now is the perfect opportunity to broaden your horizons and to look for a second sporting passion. What’s the worst that could happen?

Dive into the football archives

If finding another sporting interest hasn’t worked for you, then an alternative option could be to dive into the football history books and rewatch some absolute classics. There are countless amounts of historic games that have accumulated over the years, and this extended international break provides a great time to remind yourself of them.

From high scoring finishes to tense club rivalries, there’s not really any chance of going wrong here. So sit back, relax, and let the history of football remind you why this sport is the best in the world.

Take a break

The footballing timetable seems to be ever growing in this modern age of football. Players have become more vocal in recent years about how much strain both physically and mentally they are being put under, which in turn is affecting the quality of football on display.

However, it is also a relentless schedule for fans, meaning with football being available to watch all year round, it can burn you out. That’s why this international break allows you to take a three week break away from the game to take a breather.

Waste £90 on FC 27 like the corporate sheep you are

With the standard edition of FC27 coming to the shelves on the 25 September 2026, the timing of the release of the new game couldn’t have come at a better time.

Some of you may have played the early access version to the game which came out on 18 September, in which case the full release of FC 27 can’t come soon enough.

Even if you haven’t played the early release to the game this year, and despite saying you weren’t going to buy the new FC game, you’re just lying to yourself as the three-week international break is the perfect time to spend hours of your time waiting for the Premier League and Championship to return.
