Where Did Tottenham Finish Last Season

Crikey, did Tottenham need a breath of fresh air at the end of last season. After suffering nigh on two years of disappointment after disappointment, Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival in the dugout was the first sign of hope in recent memory, and it is hope that has burnt brighter and brighter throughout the transfer window.

In truth, Spurs are lucky to still be in the Premier League. After two successive 17th-place Premier League finishes, there has been little to suggest that the North London club has the belief to claw its way back into European contention – they have barely survived Premier League football of late, let alone thrived.

However, after a tumultuous two years at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Roberto De Zerbi seems to have finally turned the tide, a trend highlighted by the club's impressive transfer business so far this summer.

The arrivals of Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi are disproportionately high-quality signings for the level Spurs have played at in the last 18 months, and it speaks volumes about the belief and mentality De Zerbi is trying to instil in the locker room.

However, getting over the mental hump that their last 18 months have planted in front of them will take more than just some shiny new players – it requires a complete system overhaul that takes players apart and puts them back together again. Only then can Spurs hope to compete for a top-half spot. Typically, I would say give them two seasons to get back there, but with De Zerbi in charge, anything is possible.

Best Result: Man City 0-2 Tottenham (Johnson 35’, Palhinha 45+2’).

Worst Result: Tottenham 1-4 Arsenal (Kolo Muani 34’; Eze 32’, 61’, Gyokeres 47’, 90+4).

Who is Tottenham’s Manager for the 2025/26 Season?

Returning to the Premier League back in April for the first time since 2024, De Zerbi is the feisty yet tactically astute manager that Tottenham have needed to steady the ship since things first started sliding downhill under Ange Postecoglou.

As a coach who guided Brighton away from lower mid-table mediocrity and into European conversation, the impassioned Italian knows exactly what it takes to lead a team up the table; only this time round, he has a considerably more transfer budget to work with, streamlining the process.

Granted, he has his haters – signing the likes of Mason Greenwood, Elye Wahi and Neal Maupay will do that to you – but De Zerbi’s intense, unyielding style requires a strong personality, something which you cannot accuse him of lacking.

Now given a full transfer window to bring in the players that fit his ethos, De Zerbi’s Tottenham could be going under the radar this pre-season – with two money-spinning signings already and more likely on the way, and with a master tactician in the dugout, their return to the continental scene could be closer than many expect.

Who is Tottenham’s Player to Watch?

Pedro Porro

Though Spurs fans may think otherwise, having been forced to sit and watch the Spaniard’s inconsistencies for the last three and a half years, it is impossible to ignore the fact that Pedro Porro was one of the World Cup’s best players as Spain trampled their way to the World Cup.

Scoring against both Austria and France in the knockout stages and playing the part of Lamine Yamal’s sidekick on the right-hand side, the 26-year-old seems to have taken a huge leap in his development this summer, and the level he showed in North America is now being begged for across North London.

Used in the same position (right-back) at Spurs, Porro has never been able to show that same quality in white, perhaps thanks to the tactical specifics that vary from manager to manager, and let’s be honest, there have been plenty of them at Spurs in recent seasons.

However, in the form of his life and now officially a world champion, Porro has the chance to take on a whole other level of importance at Spurs this season, and with De Zerbi’s breathless, run-ragged style, Porro is one of the primary players who looks likely to benefit.

Tottenham 2026/27 Season Prediction

Let’s get one thing straight – the wounds of the last two seasons are still very much in the early stages of healing, and while slowly on the mend, they could reopen at the slightest mishap, taking the Whites back to square one.

The summer transfer investment has so far been impressive, particularly for a side that lacks the dangling carrot of European football, but signings by themselves won’t get Spurs back to where they need to be - it requires discipline, patience, an unflappable mentality, and a process that can be trusted.

De Zerbi can instil all of these into his team but requires each and every individual to openly embrace it – if even one player disagrees and wants out, the Italian is at risk of watching the immensely fragile foundations shatter around him.

If they can acquire upgrades in the goalkeeping and striking department, then every area on the pitch will have been addressed. From there onwards, it will be down to De Zerbi, and though no Spurs season is ever as straightforward as fans would want, we get the feeling that the Italian coach will be mostly successful.
