Viktor Gyokeres Transfer News: Where Could The Striker End Up?

Viktor Gyokeres is a name on the lips of fans all across the footballing world, who are all wondering where the Swede could end up after the end of the summer window. The striker first move to Sporting Lisbon in 2023, and he hasn’t looked back ever since. He has scored 85 goals and has provided 26 assists across 92 games since moving to Portugal. He earned his trade at Coventry in England, where he scored 43 goals for the Championship side, firing them to the play off final at Wembley.

With another top year at Sporting this season, with 53 goal contributions in 42 games, top clubs across the European top five leagues will be after Gyokeres, although he wont be cheap. He has already been linked with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and even Manchester United.

Gyokeres is currently on 42 goals across all competitions this season, and has been causing trouble for defenders all season. Despite his huge stature, the Swede likes to play with the ball at his feet and run at defenders. He has managed a total of 144 dribbles all season, which can be used to stretch the oppositions defensive line, creating space for Gyokeres’ teammates to move into, pushing Sporting up the pitch.

Gyokeres also achieves an average of 1.07xg per Liga Portugal match, showing he always has an eye for goal, and you can rely on him to get a goal for your side.

So, with a bundle of clubs after his signature, and a reported £83million release clause, where could one of the hottest strikers in world football end up?

Arsenal

It is no surprise to see Arsenal on this list. The Gunners are in desperate need of a complete striker, with Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz not ticking the boxes for Mikel Arteta.

The North London side have previously been linked with Newcastle United striker Aleksander Isak, but a move for that particular Swedish striker may come at a cost and be of more difficulty.

Gyokeres is very similar to Isak, in the way they both like to run with the ball at their feet and hold up the ball, bringing teammates into the game. Gyokeres has been linked to Arsenal, and could be the perfect striker Arteta is looking for, as the Spaniard could look to utilise Gyokeres and his ball carrying ability, and his lethal finishing.

Arsenal are third in the league for attempted short passes, and fifth for progressive carries. Adding Gyokeres to the squad, a player who can run with the ball so comfortably will only strengthen Arsenal’s carrying distance. But with his frame, Arsenal could add a new dimension to their playstyle, with Gyokeres in the squad giving them the option to go long to his feet so he can holdup the ball.

New Arsenal director Andrea Berta is also rumoured to be a big fan of the forward, only adding fuel to the fire of Gyokeres coming to the Emirates.

Manchester United

Another club who may not come as a surprise is Manchester United, as they are also strongly rumoured to be interested in Gyokeres coming to England. Ruben Amorim is of course slowly easing into his new job in Manchester, arriving from Sporting.

The Portuguese manager could play a pivotal role in bringing Gyokeres to Old Trafford, given the two have recently worked together for multiple seasons. Gyokeres may be convinced by his old manager to reunite in Manchester, something that other clubs won’t be able to offer in negotiations.

Gyokeres could be keen to make the move to Manchester, given that it was Amorim who helped him in turning Gyokeres into one of the best and most wanted strikers across world football.

However, Manchester United haven’t been in the best of form for many seasons now, and although his old manager Amorim is there at Old Trafford, Gyokeres may rather seek a move elsewhere to a club that can achieve silverware and dominate football.

It is of no doubt that Gyokeres would fit at Manchester United, given that they play in Amorim’s style which is so instilled inside the mind of Gyokeres. The Swede will of course know what his manager will ask of him, and you can guarantee that he will deliver to the expectations of his manager and his fans.

Liverpool

Liverpool have had a brilliant first season under Arne Slot, topping the Premier League table. It may come as a surprise that a club already top of the Premier League table, scoring the highest goals in the league, could be interested in another striker. But, similar to Arsenal, the club lack a complete striker. Of course, they have Mo Salah who can always guarantee a goal, but Darwin Nunez is the only active striker at the club, and he hasn’t been in free flowing form since coming to Liverpool.

There has been rumoured interest in Gyokeres, and he could view a move to the league leaders more favourable than other options. Joining the squad that already creates the most chances in the league seems like it could be a no brainer for Gyokeres.

With Mohammed Salah’s contract situation still unresolved, Liverpool will be in the transfer market for goals this summer. Who else would be better than a man with 85 goals and 26 assists in 92 games for Sporting Lisbon.

He has an £83million release clause reportedly, an although it’s a high figure, it’s a price you would happily play if it guarantees your side goals for years to come.

Chelsea

Even with the billions of pounds Chelsea have spent since new ownership, the London side still lack a striker who can guarantee them goals in the Premier League. The Blues have focused on the youth market, signing players who can top the world in four to five years time.

Viktor Gyokeres is an older player who is already entering his prime years. Under Enzo Maresca, Chelse have made steady progress this season, and with the addition of the top striker, they could soon find themselves back within the title fight in the Premier League.

Chelsea are third for shot creating actions in the league, and have scored 53 goals this season. Without there being a top striker in the eleven, these numbers appear very good for the blues.

Adding Viktor Gyokeres to the side could make Chelsea a strong side like they once were, with Gyokeres assuring that scoring chances wont be a challenge for Enzo Maresca’s side.

Barcelona

The first and only non-English club on the list. Barcelona may struggle to sign Gyokeres considering their tough financial situation, but there has been rumoured interest in the striker. The forward will cost a huge amount of money to sign, and Barcelona still face tough financial fair play restrictions.

Gyokeres could be keen to play for Barca, given it’s the biggest club in football and a team everyone dreams of playing for when they grow up, and Gyokeres would be no different.

Leading the line at Barcelona could tempt Gyokeres. He could also see that Barcelona offer guaranteed champions League football, and he could fight for Spanish League titles as soon as he walks through the door.

Robert Lewandowski is also coming to the end of his career, and it could pave the way for Gyokeres to take the striker position at the Camp Nou.
