Cristiano Ronaldo Throws Tantrum and Quits Portuguese National Team After Not Getting Everything His Own Way For Once

In what may well be the least surprising news of all time Cristiano Ronaldo has thrown a tantrum and quit the Portuguese national team after not getting a feature during the win against Norway.

We can all agree that if we were to predict how Ronaldo would retire from international duty, throwing a huge tantrum over something going against him would comfortably be one of the front runners on a betting market.

He has came out publicly via his social media channels to state that the real reasons for his departure from the camp and likely the national team permanently will soon be revealed to the Portuguese public.

So quite what Ronaldo's side of the story will be is yet to be completely revealed but for now we're going to run you through what information has in fact been revealed and why it all points to yet another instance of CR7 throwing his toys out of the pram.

The On/Off Field Antics Against Norway

The conflict has, at least on the surface level, started due to the 5 time Balon D'or winner not having involvement during Portugal's 2-1 win over Norway on Sunday evening.

After the match the rest of the Portugal squad went over to applaud and thank the fans for their travelling and support during the game, however a certain CR7 instead stormed down the tunnel and straight into the dressing room.

To add to this Portuguese media shared a video of him also leaving the stadium with two of the backroom staff as opposed to with any of his teammates.

Questions have arose surrounding his departure and what points more towards Ronaldo throwing his toys out of the pram is that he did in fact start in the Nations League opener against Wales so to suddenly quit the camp after a single game of not featuring seems very strange indeed.

Conflicting Stories

Later that evening Ronaldo took to his Instagram to share that he had left the national team camp following discussions with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation.

In this post he added the cryptic message of "In time, I will tell all the Portuguese the truth about the reasons that motivated me to leave." which is what has sent the whole story into a maze of questions as to how something seemingly so minor has led to one of Portugal's best ever players quitting the national team and potentially retiring.

According to exclusive information from Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda, the case may be that Ronaldo was lied to about his playing time by manager Jorge Jesus who told CR7 he would get at least 30 minutes off of the bench against Norway.

Supposedly the agreement was that Ronaldo would play the two games in Portugal against Wales and Norway and be on the bench for the two away games against Norway and Denmark but this was changed when Jesus told him he would in fact feature in the Norway game and then again when he in fact didn't feature at all.

Reports had earlier circulated stating that Ronaldo had been refusing to train however these were shut down by Portugal manager Jorge Jesus who also claimed that there was no rift between himself and the captain.

In fact Jesus' side of the story adds more fuel to the fire regarding what Ronaldo is playing at, speaking about Ronaldo's lack of involvement in the game against Norway Jesus said the following:

"Any player - and I was a player myself - when you spend 20 or 30 minutes warming up and then don't get on, no-one is happy about that.

Prior to the game it has been stated that Jesus told Ronaldo he would not be starting but may make an appearance as a substitute dependent on whether he felt he was needed.

"Afterwards, as coach, I decided not to bring him on. It's nothing to make a fuss about."

With these two sides of the story though and whilst CR7 has not yet revealed "the truth" about why he left the camp it makes him look like a crybaby who got mad he didn't come on as a substitute.

I mean we know how badly he wants to break the 1000 career goals milestone but seriously if he's that desperate to do it he's retiting from the national team purely out of anger at not making a sub appearance that he could've scored in that is the biggest sign yet that he needs to call an end to his career.

Family Involvement and What Happens Next?

As of current we have had no official confirmation as to whether this means that Ronaldo has just pulled out of this camp or whether he has gone fully mental and retired from international football off of the back of this.

However, thanks to it not just being Cristiano who enjoys the attention in the Ronaldo family his sister Elma Aveiro has taken to social media to blast not only the national team but also the Portuguese people for some reason with demands that he brother needs to be treated better and deservers more respect.

This outburst makes it appear more like his time as a representative of the Portuguese national player is done which has added fuel to what was already a raging fire over in Portugal.

In her statement on Instagram Elma Aveiro stated the following:

"CR7 deserved MORE RESPECT, The national team deserved more structure. Portuguese journalism deserved more competence and less speculation. As for the Portuguese people... they don’t deserve to have the best at anything.

“We are envious, disrespectful and ignorant, and we deserve to return to the mediocrity we always had in football before CR7.

“Thank you for everything, CR7. You deserved MORE!”

So quite what the outcome of this whole saga will actually end up being is anyone's guess but it's looking increasingly likely that two things are the case:

A) That Cristiano Ronaldo has called an end to his time playing at the international level for Portugal

B) Cristiano Ronaldo may well be the biggest crybaby that this sport has ever seen and he and his family have launched a war against the Portuguese people simply because he didn't appear off the bench in what is essentially a glorified friendly match... Christ.
