What Are The Premier League Equivalents Of The F1 Teams?

21/02/25 20:09

Two of the most popular sports across the world are football and motorsport. With the recent launch of all the liveries of the F1 teams in a 75th anniversary of the organisation, we wanted to take a look at the similarities between football clubs and the 10 current teams in F1.

McLaren – Liverpool

Currently top of the Premier League by eight points, Liverpool have blown away their competition both domestically and in the UEFA Champions League as well. After a few rough years without winning back in the 2010s, they have gotten back to their formidable ways over the last five years.

McLaren x Liverpool

McLaren, like Liverpool, were dominant in the 1980s and are one of the most recognisable brands in their respective areas. They have had a long wait to win the Constructor’s Championship, the last time coming back in 1998. With the same pairing as last year, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and now with reportedly improving on having built the fastest car on the grid, McLaren are expected to win back-to-back titles with Norris or Piastri potentially winning the Driver’s Championship as well.

Ferrari – Arsenal

Arsenal have had a lot of hype over the last couple of years after a spelled past with lots of domestic success. They look to compete for the title once more after finishing second in what looks to be two years on the bounce. There is a lot of excitement amongst the fan base on what they can achieve in the upcoming years.

Ferrari x Arsenal

Ferrari missed out on the Constructor’s Championship yet again last season, not winning the title since 2008. They have a young “Starboy” of the sport in Charles Leclerc destined to win himself a title one day and the recent acquisition of seven-time Driver’s Championship Sir Lewis Hamilton will only help in their efforts to try and finally get over the line.

Red Bull – Manchester City

Manchester City were the favourites to win the Premier League at the start of this season but the injury to Rodri has rocked their whole season around. They have been in hit and miss form ever since and are desperate to get him back as soon as possible. If Max Verstappen were to leave, like he has previously hinted, then Red Bull would slowly fall apart like City have done.

Red Bull x Manchester City

Starting to compete in the 2010s, Red Bull were dominant for a period of four years from 2010-2013 with young hotshot Sebastian Vettel leading the line for them. Now 15 years later and they are relying on another fiery competitor by the name of Max Verstappen who has also won four World Driver’s Championships with the team. Sergio Agüero and Erling Haaland could be described as likewise comparisons to Vettel and Verstappen.

Mercedes – Manchester United

Not seeing much success since the 2010s and the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in the managerial role, Manchester United have been on a downwards slope with everything seeming to not go their way. Making poor decisions in the transfer market have stopped them from climbing their way back to the top.

Mercedes x Manchester United

Mercedes are a massive team in Formula 1 but results wise and they have been unable to compete with the top teams since 2021, the last time they won the Constructor’s Championship. With their greatest ever driver in Lewis Hamilton leaving for Ferrari, they haven’t done the best they could have done in driver market, signing a rookie with not much experience but lots of potential. Only time will tell of that was the right decision or not, similar to a lot of Manchester United’s purchases.

Aston Martin – Chelsea

Chelsea have spent €1.37 billion since the 2022/23 season when owner Todd Boehly bought out the club from Roman Abramovich. They have been splashing the cash, purchasing 96 players, the most out of all the clubs in the world in that time frame. Even with all those transfers, Chelsea have failed to win anything substantial, leaving question marks as to whether they can actually get it done.

Aston Martin x Chelsea

Owned by the father of Lance Stroll, Lawrence Stroll has gone out of his way to make the team contenders. Two-time World Driver’s Champion Fernando Alonso was brought in a couple seasons ago, still competitive even at the age of 43 but his peak performances will start to expire soon. Former Red Bull designer Adrian Newey, notorious for being the best in his position joins the team for this season and onwards after receiving a generous salary to work at the Aston Martin factory, just the measly £30 million-a-year for the next five years.

Alpine – Newcastle United

Newcastle United have steadily been on the rise after a few poor seasons over recent years, the highlight being them competing in the UEFA Champions League last season, the first time 21 years. Financial troubles have hit them though with them having to sell exciting talents in Elliott Anderson and Yankuba Minteh to Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively due to PSR.

Alpine x Newcastle United

Alpine have been forced to pay a penalty of $400,000 to compensate them and Honda for committing a procedural breach of the power unit regulations. They will now partner with Mercedes engines from 2026 onwards and are hoping that this money problem will affect them now and not the future.

Haas – Fulham

Fulham have yet again been having a good season after consecutively losing a crucial player for them in Aleksandar Mitrović and João Palhinha. They might not be competing for the title but slipping down the standing from the previous campaign without huge names will be key for The Cottagers.

Haas x Fulham

Losing both their drivers from the previous season, Haas have had to restructure their lineup. They’ve opted for Esteban Ocon and Ollie Bearman with the latter being an exciting talent to look forward to watching in the future. They will look to punch above their weight with the drivers outperforming the car as the budget they have won’t allow many mistakes.

Racing Bulls – Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton & Hove Albion have be well known to develop some great talents over the years, the sales of Moisés Caicedo, Marc Cucurella, Ben White and Alexis Mac Allister in particular getting back every penny the spent and more. They have been focused on their young talent and anything else that comes with that is a bonus.

Racing Bulls x Brighton & Hove Albion

Racing Bulls, going through many names over the years, are essentially the youth team of Red Bull. Drivers that have raced with them have often gone on to better things like being promoted into the second seat at Red Bull, exactly what Liam Lawson has just done, and current Racing Bulls driver Yuki Tsunoda hope to do one day.

Williams – Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham have been a bit of a laughingstock for numerous years now with the lack of silverware they have picked up. They have had some fantastic players at the club over the years and with the squad that they possess, Spurs need to find a way to deliver the goods sooner rather than later.

Williams x Tottenham Hotspur

Williams have a rich history with nine Constructor’s Championships but the last one came back in 1997. Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari opened up the door to Carlos Sainz to join the team alongside Alex Albon. Both are solid drivers and under the tutelage of Team Principal James Vowles, they have the opportunity to make their way back to top in the long run, neglecting the now.

Sauber – Southampton

After 25 games in the Premier League, Southampton sit rock bottom of the standings, picking up just two wins, three draws and a whopping 20 losses. As it stands, they are on track to record a worse season than the current worst campaign belonging to the 2007/08 Derby County team in which they managed 11 points from 38 games.

Sauber x Southampton

Last season in the Constructor’s Championship, Sauber only managed to score four points from the 24 races across the calendar. Those points only came in the penultimate race as well, leaving it way too late into the season. With a takeover from Audi soon imminent, it is just about surviving the season without damaging the cars too much and waiting for the new regulations in 2026.
