Who are the top goalscorers in Europa League/UEFA Cup history?

Last night brought us some brilliant Europa League action once again. But who are the highest goal scorers in the competition's history?

  1. Aritz Aduriz - 31

Aritz Adruiz is one of the most underrated goalscorers of all time. And was still converting for Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League until his late 30s, and retired in 2020 at the age of 40.

He first played in the competitions during the 2011/12 season for Valencia, when he actually scored zero goals in the UEL. But until the 2017/18 season, Aduriz went on to score a total of 31 goals in the Europa.

Aduriz finished as the Europa League’s top scorer on two occasions. First in 2016 with 10 goals, and secondly in 2018 with 8 goals. Aduriz never won the Europa League.

At 43, Aduriz is now retired.

  1. Alfredo Morelos - 32

Morelos may never play in the Europa League again, but certainly left his mark on it.

At Rangers, Morelos scored most of 32 goals during the qualifying stages of the competition, scoring the most goals out of any player during qualifying in the 2019/20 season.

The furthest Morelos ever made it in the competition was the final of the 2021/22 season. When Rangers lost to Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties.

Morelos now plays for Santos, in the second tier of Brazilian football, at 27.

  1. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar - 34

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

Huntelaar started his professional senior career in the 2002/03 season for PSV, and first played in the UEFA Cup (Europa League) in 2004 for Herenveev when he scored 3 goals.

He enjoyed his most successful season of the competition, in 2011/12, when the Dutch striker recorded one of his best ever campaigns. Scoring 14 in 12 games, before losing to eventual finalists Athletic Bilbao in the quarter-finals.

Huntelaar played his final season in the UEL in 2019/20, before retiring in 2021 at Ajax.

  1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - 37

Aubameyang’s first ever Europa League experience came in 2009 whilst playing for Lille, but wouldn’t score in the competition until 2015 for Borussia Dortmund.

In that 2015/16 season, he scored 11 goals in 14 games in the UEL, as the Gabonese forward started to make a name for himself across Europe.

The closest he ever got to winning the tournament was in 2019, when Arsenal lost 4-1 in the final to rivals Chelsea.

Aubameyang is now with Marseille in France, enjoying one of his most successful ever seasons in the Europa League. He has 10 goals in 10 games, he could overtake the number 1 position this season.

  1. Henrik Larsson - 40

The top scorer in the competition's history, Larsson, first appeared in the tournament in 1996 for Feyenoord.

Larsson then went on to play several seasons in the UEFA Cup for Celtic, but didn’t strike gold until 2002/03, when he scored 11 goals. That year in all competitions, Larsson scored 44 times.

Larsson last played in the Europa League qualifying stages in 2009 for Helsinborgs IF. He retired at the end of that year.
