Who Is Omar Marmoush: The Bundesliga's Newest Star

Omar Marmoush

The Bundesliga has been very exciting this season, despite Bayern Munich having a four point lead already, and that is mainly down to the form of the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt and Mainz. These two sides are currently above Borussia Dortmund in sixth and are looking to qualify for European football next season.

Omar Marmoush This Season

Frankfurt’s position in the league table is mainly down to the excellent form of their 25-year-old Egyptian forward, Omar Marmoush. In just 15 appearances, he has 13 goals and seven assists. No player in the league has more assists than him, and only Harry Kane has more goals.

He started the season with a blank against Dortmund, but in the second gameweek, he scored and assisted in a 3-1 win over Hoffenheim. This started a six game run in which he either scored or assisted 13 times, including a brace of goals and assists Holstein Kiel.

His biggest run this season without a goal or an assist is the one he is currently on which is just two games. Both of those matches, against RB Leipzig and Mainz, ended in defeat which suggests that Marmoush’s form is vital to Frankfurt’s. Another stat that backs this up is the fact that the Egyptian has contributed to 60% of his side's goals.

Marmoush’s Career So Far

Omar Marmoush started his footballing career in his native Egypt at Wadi Delga. He made just 16 league appearances and scored twice before moving to Wolfsburg’s second team in 2017.

It took Marmoush three years to move into the Wolfsburg first team but didn’t really impress that much. Loan moves to St Pauli and Stuttgart didn’t do much to increase his reputation in Germany as he only scored 10 times in 42 matches for both sides. Marmoush then moved to Frankfurt in 2023 for free.

What Next For Marmoush?

Marmoush’s form has drawn the attention of a few Premier League clubs, namely Liverpool and Arsenal. The Reds have a lot of attacking talent, but their only out and out strikers are Darwin Nunez, who’s form has been poor recently, and Diogo Jota, who has been played on the wing a lot in his career and is noticeably injury prone.

Arsenal are probably more in need of a striker like Marmoush as they have just Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus in that position. Havertz has been good for Arsenal, but Mikel Arteta prefers him to play in a deeper role, and Jesus only appears to come alive about once a year, so they are in desperate need of a more consistent player in that position.
