Omari Kellyman is a relatively unknown name to the casual fan, but the 18 year-old attacking midfielder is the centre of negotiations between Chelsea and Aston Villa.

According to Fabrizo Romano, the 2005 born talent is on the verge of completing a £19m move to Chelsea from Aston Villa.

Kellyman is expected to complete his medical at Cobham in the next few days and sign a deal with the Blues until 2030 with the option of another year.

So why have Chelsea taken an interest in a player who has two Premier League appearances to their name?

Having progressed through the ranks at Derby County, Kellyman would sign for Aston Villa at the age of 17 for a fee of £600,000.

“Omari and Kaden are both 17 years old, that’s very young. Of course, we have to do a plan with them and the plan is for in pre-season to train and practice with us and then to get experiences playing.

Omari for 45 minutes today I think was very good and he did brilliant, in moments he showed his quality and his skill and of course, he has to improve and be stronger in his body but we are working on it” said Unai Emery during preseason.”

The Aston Villa manager has also described the youngster as a ‘star in the making.’

The 2005 born talent registered seven goals in 11 appearances in the 2023/24 Premier League 2 campaign.

Kellyman would make six first-team appearances for the Villans - providing an assist for Leon Bailey on his debut against Hibernian in the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Kellyman would sign a new long-term contract with Villa, two months after making his debut, before being handed his Premier League debut against defending champions Manchester City.

The 18 year-old attacking midfielder, who can also play on either wing is expected to be among the first-team immediately after arriving at Chelsea.

A fee of £19m has raised questions about the signing, however Chelsea are keen to get a deal over the line - showing immense faith in the youngster's potential.

Fans will be hoping that Kellyman will have a surprising impact on the squad, having missed out on Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise to Bayern Munich.
