18-year-old Manchester City Talent Could Make Championship Switch

Preston Linked With Manchester City Wonderkid

Championship outfit, Preston North End, are said to be considering a loan move for an 18-year-old talent from Manchester City in the upcoming January transfer window, should he be recalled from his current loan at Middlesbrough.

Sverre Halseth Nypan moved to the Etihad Stadium earlier this summer before going out on loan to the north east outfit for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign. Now, however, his parent club are considering a recall in the winter, and Preston are tipped to be the side take the Norwegian talent on loan for the second half of the season.

Why Might Nypan Be Recalled?

After joining City from Rosenborg in the summer after an excllent season which saw him earn 15 goal contributions, Nypan hasn’t had the sae luck just yet in the second tier. Since joining Boro on loan, Nypan has played often as an impact sub, and has only played over 45 minutes of football in just one game this season. Tipped to be one of the next huge talents coming out of Norway, the Cityzens want him on loan to earn more game time and experience, which Middlesbrough are not offering him.

He has not seemed to fit in with the system either, but this could also be down to lack of game time and chances. Through his time in the second tier so far, he has played just 14 Championship games and is yet to find a goal involvement despite having an impressive number of shots compared to other midfielders. He has played just 47 minutes of football over the last four matches, suggesting that new manager Kim Hellberg is not convinced by the youngster just yet.

Middlesbrough are currently second in the division, with Preston seven points behind in third, so Nypan could be making a move to promotion rivals.

How Could He Fit into Preston

Nypan is someone who is proven to be good in teams who are quick in their build-up play, with him able to read situations very well under pressure. Furthermore, his ability in front of goal will add another dimension to Preston’s attacking play, which gives them another, unique option going forward.

The Lancashire-based outfit operates with the one of the lower amounts of possession in the division too, ranking 21st – this could fit well for Nypan, who will be able to wrk quickly and effectively with the ball, which could help them create more chances.

Another aspect of Preston’s game which needs improving is their ability to convert big chances. Out of their 34 big chances created this season, they have converted just 15, displaying a lack of a clinical finisher in front of goal. Nypan may not be the most clinical, but the quality he will offer Preston in the final third could enable them more chances or even better ones to produce more goals if they are to keep their promotion dreams alive. He will give an excellent option to Preston in the middle of the park, but of course City are yet to confirm a decision as to whether or not Nypan will be recalled, so Preston will have to sit tight for now and hope they can get their man.
