2025/26 EFL League Two MW7 Saturday Preview

A full schedule this weekend sees 12 games set to take place in England's fourth tier. With the opening month of the season completed, the League Two table is starting to take shape as fast starters and early strugglers now look to put points on the board in September.

Here is a look at the round of fixtures on Saturday and the fascinating match-ups pencilled in for League Two's seventh game week.

Newport vs Bristol Rovers

The early kick-off sees the struggling Newport County welcome Derell Clarke's Bristol Rovers side to Rodney Parade. The Welsh outfit have had a tough time of things recently, losing their last four league games. With their only win coming on the second matchday, the current situation seems very ominous for County after narrowly avoiding the drop last time out.

Bristol Rovers, on the other hand, look to be a team on the up. Back-to-back victories have eased early season fears and Rovers fans will be confident travelling to South Wales of getting a result to continue their positive run of form.

Walsall vs Chesterfield

A rematch of last season's play-off game, Walsall host high-flying Chesterfield in a battle of the early top seven. Chesterfield travel to Walsall hoping to exact revenge after their 24/25 campaign ended at the hands of their Saturday opponents. Manager Paul Cook will also be looking to move on as quickly as possible from their 7-1 EFL Trophy defeat to Crewe in midweek. Sitting pretty in the automatic promotion places, a win against Walsall would be a real showing of their credentials this year.

Walsall look to have shaken off the disappointment of a play-off final loss at the end of May. Matt Sadler's men have found their stride of late, racking up three wins from their last four in the league. With consecutive clean sheets coming in their last two fixtures. The Saddlers look to be on the right path to being at the top end of the table again this season.

Salford vs Tranmere

Tranmere make the relatively short trip to Salford in a mid-table match up at 3 o'clock on Saturday. The away side will be intent on putting a first league defeat last weekend behind them when they face Karl Robinson's men, hoping to continue their solid away record so far this campaign.

Salford will be buoyed be a late equaliser from Kadeem Harris as they rescued a point against bottom-side Cheltenham last weekend. With a positive, yet inconsistent start to their League Two campaign, Salford fans will be adamant that there is more to come from their team this season.

MK Dons vs Grimsby

Seventh vs Eighth. Warne vs Artell. Both sides have enjoyed decent starts to the season, showing signs of real potential in their opening six games.

After an impressive summer transfer window, The Dons will now be looking to press on with their promotion charge after a number of impressive additions. With a manager and a squad now ready to compete at the top of the league, a home game against Grimsby provides an ample opportunity to continue their good form.

Likewise, Grimsby find themselves in a position of real strength when they face MK Dons on Saturday. A home loss to Bristol Rovers provided an anomaly of a result last weekend after a lightning fast start to their league campaign. The momentous victory against Manchester United in the EFL cup will no doubt be the standout to their season so far, but a solid beginning to their league escapades will have the Grimsby faithful believing a great season is on the cards for their side.

Harrogate vs Crawley

Harrogate welcome a winless Crawley Town on Saturday as they attempt to reverse their fortunes after consecutive losses to Chesterfield and Bromley respectively. Sitting on eight points after their opening six fixtures, an up and down start to the season will leave manager Simon Weaver eager to find some consistency and, with that, some momentum as they look to improve upon their 18th place finish last time out.

As for Crawley, things seem as bleak as they can be. Winless in all competitions , Scott Lindsey has the challenging task of getting his side out of the rut they find themselves in. After showings some signs of life in a 2-2 draw away at Chesterfield, fans will be hoping they can use their performance last weekend as a basis for future improvement and bounce back after their relegation to England's fourth tier.

Colchester vs Crewe

A steady, but underwhelming start to Colchester's League Two season sees them having accrued six points from six games. Having surrendered leads in three of these games, there will be a frustration with The U's ability to see out matches and keep hold of three points.

Crewe have been brought down to earth in recent weeks. Racing out of stalls winning their first four league games, back-to-back losses to Swindon and, now top of the league, Gillingham have seen early pace-setters drop to fourth. However as mentioned , fresh off a 7-1 destruction of Chesterfield in the EFL Trophy, the away side may have rediscovered the attacking potency that propelled them to the summit of the table a few weeks ago.

Barnet vs Shrewsbury

After just two points from six games, a 0-0 stalemate against Accrington last week was enough to end a run of four successive league defeats for Shrewsbury Town. In what has been a truly awful start to the season, Michael Appleton's side have shipped 12 goals during this time, in a run of form that must be changed sooner, rather than later. They travel to newly-promoted Barnet looking to register their first points away from New Meadow, aiming to climb out of the bottom the two in the process.

Home side Barnet have been able to put their early season struggles behind them and look to be finding their feet in the division after their promotion from the National League. Seven points from their last three games has them headed in the right direction, but with a first home win continuing to allude them, the game against Shrewsbury provides a perfect chance to get a first three points in front of their own fans.

Barrow vs Swindon

Swindon travel to 18th place Barrow in a rich vein of form. Joint top goal scorers in the league and off the back of a hugely impressive victory at Crewe last time out, Ian Holloway has found a real tune out of his Swindon squad. With the recent addition of Ollie Palmer to increase their firepower, they go into their clash against Barrow as huge favourites.

Barrow, who are tasked with halting their free scoring opposition, have failed to really get going so far this term. With four losses already to their name, a tough start, in terms of fixtures, has reflected in their failure to gain any momentum as of yet. With an in-form Swindon coming to town, we will need to see the best of Barrow if they are going to get anything out of the game.

Cambridge vs Oldham

Newly-promoted side Oldham face the tough task of an away game at Cambridge, who will be relatively happy with their start to their life in League Two. A transitional summer for the club after their relegation from the third tier has seen gaffer Neil Harris remain in charge and steady the ship. Although suffering two defeats in their opening six games, those connected with Cambridge will believe they are in a position to challenge at the top of the table and will see Saturday's home game as one they should win.

Oldham, still winless in the league, will be very realistic of what they can achieve this season. After their promotion from the National League, the goal of preserving their football league status will be very much at the forefront of their vision. Drawing four times already this campaign, manager Micky Mellon's priority will be turning these positive performances into victories.

Cheltenham vs Accrington

Although only six games into the season, alarm bells will be ringing at Cheltenham. Their start to the campaign has been nothing short of woeful. Six games played, only two goals scored and just the one point on the board. The point however did come away at Salford last weekend and, at the very least, is something to build on going forward as a fight to stay in the division looks already on the cards.

As for Accrington, their form going into this one is not much better than their rock-bottom opposition . Also winless, Stanley find themselves in a similar boat to last season. Teetering just above the relegation zone, there will be a growing concern amongst Accrington fans that they also will be fighting to stay in the division.

Notts County vs Fleetwood

Notts County's season so far has been a tale of scoring goals but also not being able to keep them out. Finding the net in every league game this season, as well as failing to keep a clean sheet, sees them 13th in League Two with the visit of Fleetwood Town to Meadow Lane coming up this Saturday.

The visiting Fleetwood have also scored in each of their League Two fixtures this season, but have also been able a couple of clean sheets in the process. Sitting just outside the play-off places, they will be looking to continue their positive start and make it back-to-back away wins following their win over Barrow last week.

Bromley vs Gillingham

Last, but no least, is the half five kick off for this Saturday. League-leaders Gillingham are away from home at the in-form Bromley, in a match-up that sees two undefeated teams face-off. Bromley have surpassed all expectation with their start to life in League Two. Sitting third in the table, Andy Woodman and his team have shown no signs of faltering after their promotion to the fourth tier.

Gareth Ainsworth's Gillingham will be under no illusion of the task ahead of them at Bromley, but after winning their last three league games, will be quietly confident of continuing their form. A solid defence has given them a platform to rise to the top of League Two and The Gills will be eying another three points on Saturday, to maintain their place at the summit.
