5 Deadline Day Transfers You Might Have Missed
Now that the summer transfer window is finally over, here at Football Park we're giving you a run down on some of the deals in the EFL you might have missed.
✍️ #LUFC is delighted to announce the signing of Ao Tanaka, who joins in a permanent deal from Fortuna Dusseldorf
— Leeds United (@LUFC) August 30, 2024
Japan’s Ao Tanaka has signed for Championship title contenders Leeds United for a fee of €4 million, leaving Fortuna Düsseldorf. He is a predominantly a centre midfielder but can play in both attacking and defending variatons. Last season in the Bundesliga 2 he recorded 36 games across all competitions under his belt and in that time, he managed eight goals and four assists.
He is most likely the person that will replace young talent Archie Gray, who left for Tottenham, despite the former Leeds man playing right back for most of last season. Tanaka makes for the eighth signing at Elland Road this season and fans can look forward to see what he can bring to the middle of the pitch.

We're delighted to announce the loan signing of Ben Doak from @LFC 🤝#UTB pic.twitter.com/KGnnwDlzKl
Liverpool have allowed exciting prospect Ben Doak to join Middlesborough on loan for the remainder of the season. The Scotsman has been at Liverpool for two years now after switching academies to the Merseyside club from Celtic. He has so much promise for his age, hence why Jurgen Klopp thought it was appropriate enough to feature Doak in the starting line-up in some of Liverpool's UEFA Europa League matches last year.
Middlesbrough have got a gem of player in their ranks now. The possibility of attack that includes Emmanuel Latte Lath, Micah Hamilton, Tommy Conway and now Ben Doak can definitely give Boro a massive help in getting to those Playoff places in the Championship. Maybe they can go all the way and earn promotion, playing in the Premier League for the first time in almost ten years.

— Birmingham City FC (@BCFC) August 30, 2024
Setting a new League One transfer record, title contenders Birmingham City have purchased Fulham’s Jay Stansfield for a fee of £15 million plus £5 million in add ons, totalling to almost double the price of the previous amount set in the 09/10 season. A reminder of how much this deal is, Premier League side Liverpool paid £10 million for Juventus’ Federico Chiesa.
Stansfield re-joins the club he spent last season on loan at. During his spell there last year he played 47 games across all competitions, scoring 13 times and providing 3 assists to his teammates. With Birmingham already bringing in a striker in Alfie May earlier on in the transfer window, they look to make sure they win their matches by scoring enough goals. The partnership of Stansfield and May will 100% help them to get promoted out of League One and back into the Championship.
✍️ We are delighted to unveil Todd Cantwell as our newest recruit.
— Blackburn Rovers (@Rovers) August 30, 2024
The gifted midfielder joins on a three-year deal from Rangers for an undisclosed fee.#Rovers 🔵⚪️ pic.twitter.com/M4nqGPHeKh
From a £40 - £50 million evaluation by Norwich in 2021, Todd Cantwell makes the move from Scottish Premiership side Rangers, back to English football and signs a contract with Blackburn Rovers for just £500k. The 26 year old played a total of 44 games across all competitions last season, ending up with eight goals and seven assists.
Playing mainly as an attacking midfielder, Blackburn Rovers will have brought Cantwell in to replace 2023/24 Championship Golden Boot winner Sammie Szmodics. There is not a chance that he replicates the 27 goals that Szmodics scored but if he contributes half the amount then Todd can give Blackburn half a chance of staying up this season as their 19th place finish could be an omen for this season.
We are delighted to confirm the signing of Ecuador international Jeremy Sarmiento, who joins on a season-long loan deal from @OfficialBHAFC.
— Burnley FC (@BurnleyOfficial) August 30, 2024
Welcome to Burnley, Jeremy 🤝
Put all over the place last season, Jeremy Sarmiento expects to fulfil out the season long loan he is contracted to at Burnley for the remainder of the campaign. Sarmiento’s parent club Brighton had him set to play at West Brom on loan for the 2023/24 season until they withdrew him back during the January transfer window. They did that because they wanted him at a different club so Jeremy would go into the last half of the season at Ipswich Town.
As part of the two stints at two different clubs, Sarmiento played 43 games across all competitions at club level, putting the ball into the back of the net six times and making two assists. For Ecuador and he was part of their Copa America squad, actually scoring in a 1-2 defeat to Venezuela. His country were eventually eliminated by champions Argentina but this season Burnley can expect good performances and hopefully better goal contribution statistics.
