Addicks On Hunt For Chelsea Youngster

David Datro Fofana has been rumoured with a loan move away from Chelsea on Deadline Day. The striker was linked with a loan deal to Preston North End earlier today, but now it seems Championship rivals Charlton Athletic are favourites to land the 22-year-old, as reported by Pete O’Rourke.

Fofana has already triggered three loan spells away from Chelsea since signing for them in January 2023, but his fourth may just be in the English second tier after failing to hit the mark at Göztepe last season.

Deadline Day Delight for Charlton

Fofana was an extremely hyped up talent upon his arrival to Chelsea and although his time away from the club hasn’t necessarily worked out, Charlton may offer the striker a place of rejuvenation in the Championship.

The Ivorian scored just eight goals in 41 matches across loan stints with Turkish outfit Göztepe, Burnley and Union Berlin, which has seen him shadowed out of the Chelsea first team.

However, a drop down to the second division could help him get back on his feet, as the Addicks look to build on a mediocre opening to the season. Nathan Jones’ men have picked up four points from their first four games, after beating Watford and drawing to Bristol City. However, losses in their last two matches have spoiled their promotion party.

Whilst Charlton lead as the favourites, Preston North End are still interested in the striker. As the window is now shut, we wait and see if either of them managed to get the deal over the line.
