Ange Postecoglou has been dismissed from his role as Nottingham Forest manager after just eight games in charge, following a 3-0 loss to Chelsea.
It makes him the quickest dismissal in Premier League history, just 39 days at the helm, beating the previous record held by Les Reed of 40 days at Charlton back in 2006.
Yesterday, the Australian manager came out in staunch defence of himself during the pre-match press conference.
The highlight of the media spectacle read:
"If you give me time it always ends the same, with me and a trophy."
Yet, time is exactly what the ex-Spurs manager wasn't offered, amid rumours that owner Evangelos Marinakis has Sean Dyche on standby.
The hosts gave the Blues a run for their money in the first half, maintaining a compact shape with the box midfield of Douglas Luiz, Ibrahima Sangare, Elliot Anderson and Morgan Gibbs-White that afforded Chelsea little time on the ball and resulted in many enforced errors.
However, aside from Gibbs-White's couple of chances, Forest were also sloppy on the ball and the sides were fairly level at the break.
Josh Acheampong's first goal for his boyhood club came just four minutes after the restart, quickly followed up by Pedro Neto's free-kick that Matz Sels couldn't keep out to give Chelsea a huge buffer.
Forest had two good chances to pull one back, hitting the woodwork and forcing Robert Sanchez into a good save, but Reece James made them pay for wasting their opportunities with a volley following a corner - on his 200th Blues appearance.
Marinakis had seen enough as he left his seat on the hour mark, and chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning" serenaded from the away end, plus boos from the home faithful.
Given the crowd reaction and the fiery nature of the Greek owner, perhaps it's no surprise that the Aussie was fired just minutes after the full time whistle sounded.
