Are England the most boring team to watch in Euros history?

England’s final group game in Euro 2024 ended in a nil-nil draw against Slovenia and it was, to be honest, the most boring 90 minutes of my life.

The attacking players create very little with Phil Foden being the least painful player to watch. Harry Kane or Conor Gallagher should’ve scored when Keiran Trippier played a good cross into the box. Unfortunately both players failed to make contact.

In the second half Cole Palmer came on for Bukayo Saka, a change that many have been calling for, and provided next to nothing other than a scuffed effort at goal.

Despite the result, England qualified in first with five points because Denmark failed to beat Serbia in the other group game, which left them second and Slovenia third.

England scored once in each of their first two games in this year’s group stage against Serbia and Denmark and didn’t really threaten other than the goals. In both games they were second best and have been lucky to qualify.

Other teams such as Germany and Spain have produced electrifying displays against Scotland and Croatia respectively and have started to become favourites for many, including myself.

England however have been sloppy, poor and blunt in attack. To put in perspective, Germany had more shots against Scotland (20) than England managed in their opening two games (16).

In the last Euros, England only scored more than one goal in 90 minutes once, in a 4-0 win over Ukraine, so this is looking like a bit of a trend.

England’s next game will be against one of the best third placed teams on Sunday, but to be honest I think I’ll just stick to watching paint dry. The answer to the question in the title of my article? Yes.
