Arne Slot Masterclass | Manchester United vs Liverpool Player Ratings
Mo Salah shines once more at Old Trafford as Arne Slot’s Liverpool dismember a dilapidated Manchester United side.
Liverpool join Manchester City at the summit of the Premier League table with both sides winning their opening 3 fixtures.
As for the home side, United have now suffered two defeats in their first three games of the season as pressure piles on Erik ten Hag.

Andre Onana: 5
The Cameroonian made 0 saves and conceded 3 goals. Two of which he could have done better with. No mistakes from Onana today but by no means a strong performance.
Some slack can be cut as he was hung out to dry by the 10 men in front of him.
Noussair Mazraoui: 6
Moments of cleverness but lapse in defence. Ten Hag’s new acquisition left two at the back post as Liverpool took the lead at Old Trafford.
Matthijs de Ligt: 5
A very poor second half will overshadow a promising opening third. Booked for a rash challenge on Luis Diaz. The Dutchman will be a success in Manchester with time.
Lisandro Martinez: 5
Yellow card, going close with a bicycle kick and countless sloppy passes, a strange afternoon for the World Cup winner, but not an impressive one. Usually so reliable but yet to show the form he found in his debut season at the for Manchester United.
Diogo Dalot: 6
I’m always impressed with Dalot going forward. I was weighing up giving the Portuguese a 7, but as part of a back four with as much solidity as a chocolate teapot, there was little justification.
Casemiro: 3
Both Liverpool goals against Manchester United came through:

A Casemiro mistake ➡️ Mo Salah Assist ➡️ Luis Diaz goal pic.twitter.com/K1U1reWED9
A torrid time for the five time UCL winner. One of the worst first half performances I’ve seen. 2 mistakes leading to Luis Diaz bagging a brace and passing with pinball-like accuracy.
Hooked at half time for 20 year old Toby Collyer. As Jamie Carragher likes to say, “Leave the football before the football leaves you.”
Kobbie Mainoo: 4
The ever composed Manchester United midfielder struggled against a strong Liverpool press. Caught out and gifted Liverpool a third. In fairness, it was a graveyard shift for the 19 year old but one that he will learn from.
Bruno Fernandes: 5
So much is expected from United’s Portuguese magnifico. Today, he just didn’t have the answers. Mind you, he wasn’t the only one. But when Bruno is misfiring it feels like the Manchester United cannon jams.
Alejandro Garnacho: 6
The Stratford end let out a painful groan when Ten Hag substituted the Argentine on 70 minutes. Always a bright spark but Robertson had his number. A frustrating evening for him.
Marcus Rashford: 5
A difficult performance to sum up. One one hand, the Englishman created two brilliant chances for Zirkzee who somehow failed to convert.
Aside from that, the wideman offered nothing. Somehow lasted the full 90 to the disgust of Old Trafford. What has happened to him?
Joshua Zirkzee: 4
Lethargic, sloppy and naive. While the former Bayern bagsman showed promise in the Serie A he doesn’t look up to scratch in England just yet. Should’ve scored 2 goals tonight but poor finishing let the Dutchman down.
United fans will be desperately anticipating the return of Rasmus Hojlund.
Substitutes:
Toby Collyer: 7
Toby Collyer in 45 minutes on his Premier League debut:
— Football on TNT Sports (@footballontnt) September 1, 2024
3 tackles won
3 recoveries
1 chance created
7/7 duels won
100% successful dribbles
A bright spark in a tough day for Manchester United 👏 pic.twitter.com/FlqMXhjtxA
On for Casemiro at the break. A strong performance on his Premier League debut amidst a weak team. Played with his chest out and it showed. 100% successful dribbles, 3 recoveries and 7 duels won. Stood out like a sore thumb for United today.
Harry Maguire: 6
Didn’t do much wrong, slightly improved the back line but couldn’t offer much more than that.
Amad Diallo: 7
Why didn’t he start? The Ivorian drove straight at the Liverpool defence seconds after his entered the pitch. Something Rashford failed to do all evening. Tried to create for the Red Devils but lacked the bodies around him.
With some work on his end product, Amad has the technical ability to be a star.
Christian Eriksen: 6
Played 5 minutes and touched the ball 3 times, nothing more to say.
Alisson: 7
Liverpool have the best goalkeeper in the world. He didn’t have much to do today but still showed his quality after Zirkzee forced him into a decent save.
Trent Alexander-Arnold: 6

Would have been a 7 if his goal stood. Trent was solid defensively and sound going forward but didn’t do enough to earn above an average rating.
Ibrahima Konate: 7
An effortless performance from Konate tonight. He made his job look so easy. The Frenchman possesses so much pace and power which United just did not have the answers to.
Virgil van Dijk: 7
Very rarely does Virgil drop below a 7. Not one of his best games tonight but he didn’t need to get out of first gear. And that’s all you need to know about the giant Dutchman. World Class.
Andy Robertson: 7
Just edges Trent and scores a 7. Similar performances from the pair but Robbo just showed an extra level of maturity today. Managed to keep Garnacho quiet for 70 minutes and not many full backs have the privilege of saying that.
Ryan Gravenberch: 8

✅ 56 touches
✅ 34/41 passes completed
✅ 7 duels won
✅ 6x possession won
✅ 4 interceptions (most)
✅ 3x fouls won (most)
✅ 2/2 tackles won
Insane performance 🙌 pic.twitter.com/gUflgWPF8l
Jamie Carragher said that the former Ajax talent showed glimpses of a prime Patrick Vieira under Slot thus far; and while it’s a stretch I do see resemblances in his performance today. After a difficult first season for Liverpool, Gravenberch looks to have shrugged off any doubters with this performance.
Alexis Mac Allister: 6
The Argentine had a quiet game at Old Trafford. Seemed far from his usual self. Can’t give him more than a 6 I’m afraid.
Dominik Szoboszlai: 7
Just one assist for the Hungarian but how didn’t he score. Just five yards out all he had to do was shoot, but he tried to be too clever and was found out. A severe lack of professionalism from the midfielder clouds an otherwise decent display.
Mohamed Salah: 9
The Egyptian is really enjoying his last season at the Reds. 2 assists and a goal takes him to 6 goal contributions in just 3 games. He may be the wrong end of 30 but shows no signs of slowing down. A trademark Salah showing at Old Trafford, I think it’s the place he will miss most when he departs Liverpool.
Luis Diaz: 8
Two for Luis Diaz. Two for @LFC. 😯#MUNLIV #TheKickOff pic.twitter.com/8CWClH1U28
— Premier League (@premierleague) September 1, 2024
Two very well taken goals and Diaz looks to be back at his best. The Colombian was electric and spun Matthijs de Ligt in circles for 70 minutes. 3 goals in 3, Cody Gakpo and Federico Chies must be wondering what it will take to displace Lucho in Liverpool XI.
Diogo Jota: 5
Played a bit part role in a stellar performance. Almost invisible at times, 7 passes completed and just 1 shot. The former Wolves man also lost 12 duels during his 78 minutes on the pitch.
Substitutes:
Cody Gakpo: 6
After his brilliant Euro 2024 Gakpo probably expected to be in the team week in week out. But he showed little off the bench to warrant that.
Connor Bradley: 7
Arne Slot has the difficult task of finding minutes for such a wonderful player. So sharp and mature beyond his years, Bradley fills the Trent role so effortlessly, at just 21 he has a bright future ahead of him.
Darwin Nunez: 6
A typical Darwin cameo. Almost scored from range but saw his effort wide.
Konstantinos Tsimikas: 6
Came on to see the game out and that’s exactly what he did.
Man of the Match: Mohamed Salah
Another 🔝 performance 👑
