Arsenal Back at the Top: Arsenal vs Newcastle Reaction

We are back with the Premier League and once again we see if Arsenal can take their chance to stay top of the League. This time they see Newcastle take a visit down to London to face them.

Arsenal lined up an interesting team with some players getting rested with one clear name being Viktor Gyokeres. Instead of the Swedish striker upfront they saw Kai Havertz take the mantel. This was a choice that we would have to wait and see if it would cost them.

The game started perfectly. Arsenal had taken a few corners short and this time it worked. They played it around inside the Newcastle box for a bit until Kai Havertz found Eze on the edge of the box in a little pocket of space. Eze would then set himself up and put a lovely finish into the opposite corner. Arsenal had the lead, now could they hold on.

The answer to that question in the first half is yes. While they weren’t great at all having just 3 shots and making 0.08 xG, Newcastle just couldn’t break the defence. They had 9 shots in the first half however, 5 of them came from outside the box just showing a level of desperation.

This desperation only grew in the second half as they would keep the pressure on. However, this time Arsenal were fighting back. They were pushing forward and finally actually showing what their attack could do. However, even with both sides putting on all this pressure nothing could happen, and the game would end 1-0.

The big question is now for both sides can Newcastle make Europe this year and has that ship already sailed as they sit in 14th. The other question is can Arsenal hold out and win the league with these type of results, or will their attack and lack of ability to score freely cost them the title that they’ve held onto the top spot for, for so long?
