Arsenal vs Brentford | Match Preview

Arsenal face off against Brentford on Saturday night with the chance to win their 8th successive match in a row. Brentford, on the other hand, need to get points fast to avoid dropping into the relegation places, with only one point from their last 4 games.

Starting with Brentford, it hasn’t been the return for Ivan Toney that we all hoped for, while he has scored four goals since his comeback, two of those goals were part of losses for the bees. The English striker is due a goal soon as he has gone three games without one and after denting Arsenal’s title chances last season at the Emirates with a controversial goal, he’ll be looking to do the same again. Ivan Toney will also potentially have a summer move in mind on Saturday as Arsenal have reported interest in the Brentford number 17. It would be the perfect opportunity to show to Mikel Arteta what he can offer.

Thomas Frank may be under pressure soon if results don’t pick up and getting a result at the Emirates would be great for picking up the players in time for the end of the season. His side have notably been missing Bryan Mbuemo but just this week the Cameroon international has returned to training and would be a massive bonus if he can make the squad for the match against the Gunners. Mbuemo’s partnership with Ivan Toney hasn’t had the chance to return due to his injury and linking up with Toney once again could create a potential shock to stun the home side.

Arsenal couldn’t be in a better place right now, if you ignore the premier league table. Since the turn of the year Arsenal have been the most in form side in the league with the goals flowing and the defence letting barely anything go in. They have won seven successive matches, which is the best patch of form from any side this season in the Premier League.

Winning on Saturday would extend that run and hopefully result in Arsenal finally gaining ground on Man City and Liverpool as despite this form they have failed to rise above 3rd. After Monday night’s 6-0 win against Sheffield United the Gunners became the first side ever in English football to win three successive away games by at least five goals. This just goes to show that their current form is no joke and anyone they play right now should be scared.

Despite this, there is history with Brentford, after the loss at the start of the 21-22 season, resulting in Toney’s “Nice Kick-about with the boys”, which led to Arteta using it as motivation in future fixtures against the Bees. However, last season the Bees gave an almighty sting to Arsenal’s title hopes. Thanks to a VAR error in which the lines weren’t drawn for Brentford’s equalising goal in which Norgaard was offside the Gunners dropped points just before losing to Man City, a moment which would help define Arsenal’s season.

Arsenal will look to avoid giving Brentford the chance to repeat history and deal with them the way they’ve dealt with every other side this calendar year; convincingly. With their defence looking better than ever and even Declan Rice chipping in regularly with goals, Arsenal have what it takes to carry on their form and dismantle Brentford. I will be predicting a 3-0 win for Arsenal under the lights as despite Mbuemo returning and Brentford’s frustrating history with Arsenal, it’s impossible to look beyond how Arteta’s side are playing right now.
