Arsenal welcome London rivals Chelsea to the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night as they look to build on their 2-0 win over Wolves on Saturday and re-invigorate their Premier League title hopes.

The Gunners endured a difficult period in their season last week as former boss Unai Emery masterminded a shock 2-0 victory for Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium last Sunday to put a dent in Arsenal’s title bid before Bayern Munich knocked them out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage with a 1-0 (3-2 agg.) win at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

But Mikel Arteta’s side dusted themselves off and got back to winning ways on Saturday as they strolled to a 2-0 win over Wolves at Molineux. Leandro Trossard scored the opener on the stroke of half-time, stabbing home a sliced effort into the top corner.

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard then doubled the away side’s lead deep into added time to ensure the Gunners returned to the top of the Premier League table. Meanwhile, Chelsea will be licking their wounds heading into Tuesday night’s game after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals on Saturday.

The Blues will need to quickly put their Wembley heartache behind them if they are to pick up a result against title-chasing Arsenal and will no doubt be leaning on the goalscoring prowess of Premier League joint-top scorer Cole Palmer. The 21-year-old sensation is level with Erling Haaland on 20 goals this season and has scored two hat-tricks in his last three league games.

Arsenal did the double over Chelsea last season and have won five of their last seven Premier League meetings with the west London side. Team News Arsenal summer signing Jurrien Timber remains out for Tuesday night’s game but is expected to feature for the u21s in the near future as he steps up his recovery from the ACL injury he suffered on the opening day of the Premier League season.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is a slight doubt after he missed the Wolves game as a precaution following a knock he picked up against Bayern. Chelsea duo Robert Sanchez and Christopher Nkunku have both returned to “partial team training” but are likely to miss Tuesday’s night game. Levi Colwill is a major doubt with a toe injury that he sustained last month, while Reece James, Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia, and Lesley Ugochukwu remain out with long-term injuries.
