Aston Villa vs Tottenham Hotpsur is set to be one of the biggest Premier League fixtures this weekend. But after last seasons historic ending, who will come out on top?

Aston Villa vs Tottenham Stats

In terms of head-to-head stats, the last time these two met this season, Villa beat Spurs 2-1 away from home. In fact, the home side have won their last 3 games against Tottenham.

So far this season, Ollie Watkins his Villa's highest scorer in the Premier League with 16 goals. That's the second highest out of any other player in the league, and is currently onyl two goals behind Erling Haaland, and one ahead of Mohammed Salah.

Leon Bailey has the most assists for Aston Villa with 8. The joint 6th highest in the league.

For Tottenham, their highest goalscorer is Son Heung-min with 13 goals and 6 assists in 23 games this season. Not bad for a 31-year-old.

Pedro Porro has created the most goals this season in the Premier League for the away side this Sunday, with 7.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham Standings

Not so long ago, most fans would assume that Spurs, one of the Premier league's biggest clubs, would be higher than Villa on the table heading into the final stage of the season. But 2023/24 is different.

Tottenham visit Villa Park 5th and on 50 points, 5 points ahead though, having played 1 more game, is Unai Emery's side. They're of course on 55 points, and in 4th.

For the home side this weekend, everything will be about getting one step closer to making history with a Champions league qualifying spot. Despite the high hopes born from the start of the season, the Villains probably don't have it in them to catch Arsenal, Manchester City or Liverpool, who are all chasing the title.

But much like Newcastle United last season, Villa stand a strong chance of making the UEFA Champions League this season if they're able to keep up their strong form. And this league match against Spurs, is very significant.

For Tottenham, manager Ange Postecoglou will also have his eyes on those Champions League places. His team were also tipped for the title at the beginning of the campaign, but 5 draws and 6 losses from their 26 games so far has seen them out of the running for quite some time.

This is a sense of rivalry between these two sides off the back end of last season. In 2022/23, Unai Emery's Villa pipped Spurs for the last European spot in the Europa Conference League by just one point. Both sides have gone on to improve this season, both remembering last summer.
