Tonight’s UEFA Europa League final is set to be a footballing spectacle, with two excellent teams battling for a piece of silverware that will be incredibly important for their respective seasons.

Bayer Leverkusen team news

Bayer Leverkusen have their eyes set on a treble, and the Europa League would give them part two of that, having won the league last month. They are also looking to finish the season unbeaten. They have set a new record for the number of matches unbeaten in European football with 51 games, beating Benfica’s record of 48 from the 1960s and have just two games left, tonight’s game against Atalanta, and a DFB-Pokal final against 2. Bundesliga side FC Kaiserslautern.

Leverkusen boss, Xabi Alonso, said: “Our focus is on preparing the game, not a special game. We haven’t changed anything.

“The players are ready for sure. I have a good feeling it will not be different. We will respect Atalanta but we have confidence in our game.”

Atalanta team news

Atalanta will be looking at the Europa League as a real opportunity to win their first piece of silverware since 1963 when they won the Coppa Italia. They currently sit fifth in the Serie A and have two games still to play. Due to the UEFA coefficient, fifth in Serie A is enough to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Atalanta boss, Gian Piero Gasperini, has said: “I think we are in the best possible condition in a psychological and physical sense.

“We have to respect them Leverkusen and try to adapt quickly to the opponents we are facing.”

Both sides ended English hopes in the competition earlier in the campaign. Leverkusen beat West Ham and Atalanta shocked Liverpool in the quarter finals.
