Atletico Madrid Will Do Everything to Sign Julian Alvarez This Summer

According to reports Manchester City could be subject to an ambitious approach from the Spanish giants for their Argentine forward Julian Alvarez.

Marca’s David Medina reported on the social media platform X that Atletico Madrid will ‘push’ for the signing of the Manchester City star ‘no matter how minimal their chances may be’.

The La Liga side are said to be aware that it ‘will not be easy to deal with City’, however the Argentine international is the club’s ‘great desire’ this summer, with personal approaches having already been made.

Interest in the striker from Europe’s biggest clubs comes as no surprise as the 24-year-old has enjoyed his best campaign to date in a Manchester City shirt, helping them to a record fourth successive Premier League title.

Alvarez registered 54 appearances across all competitions this season with injuries to Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland contributing to his increased game time.

The 23/24 campaign saw Alvarez net 19 goals and 13 assists whilst being utilised in a multitude of positions, most notably alongside Phil Foden in midfield.

Despite a successful year Alvarez may feel that he will never be the first choice in his preferred position with reports suggesting Manchester City are keen to secure the long-term future of Erling Haaland.

Reports suggest Alvarez has been made aware of Atletico’s interest through Rodrigo De Paul, Nahuel Molina, and Angel Correa.

The Argentine trio are set to try and convince the Manchester City striker to join as preparations begin for the Copa America this summer. They are understood to be ‘pushing for it to happen’.

It would certainly be a surprise if Manchester City were to sell Alvarez given his success at the club since joining in 2022.

However, if players express a desire to leave, City do not stand in their way and will be open to sell provided the offer meets their valuations.

Since joining from River Plate for a mere £14 million Alvarez has made a name for himself on the world stage both for club and country with his transfer value now estimated at around £75 million.
