Barnsley Edge Closer To Rams Defender

A move for Derby County centre-back Jake Rooney is imminent as League One outfit Barnsley are reportedly finalising a loan deal for the 22-year-old, as per Football League World.

The defender can not be guaranteed minutes at his parent club this season with the additions of Danny Batth and Dion Sanderson, therefore a loan move down to League One could be the perfect opportunity to grasp the game time he desires.

This is a deal that has been brewing for days now, after we reported it last Thursday. But with the move still not completed, both parties are now rushed for time on Transfer Deadline Day.

Solution for Barnsley’s Clean Sheet Scarcity?

The Tykes have kept just one clean sheet in six League One games so far this season and have conceded the most goals out of any team in the top six. Whilst they have still picked up 13 points from those games, a capability to avoid opposition threat would fuel a lot more confidence into Conor Hourihane’s men.

Rooney signed for the Rams three years ago from Burnley following the club’s relegation to League One. However, the defender has never quite managed to break into the Derby team, having only made 12 league appearances in three seasons.

It is clear that the youngster needs more minutes under his belt, with this loan deal working for all parties involved. Playing for a top-end League One side like Barnsley would help him to reach match sharpness and his defensive services may potentially assist the Tykes’ promotion hopes.

There is less than one hour until the transfer window shuts, so both teams must act fast to get this deal over the line.
