Bayern Munich 1-0 Arsenal | Match Report

Bayern Munich knocked Arsenal out of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night thanks to a Joshua Kimmich header and a dominant second half.

The first half saw few chances for both sides with the biggest of note falling to Gabriel Martinelli after Martin Odegaard found him in the box. The Brazilian winger failed to finish the move off as his rushed finish went straight into Manuel Neuer’s hands.

Aside from a deflected strike from Noussair Mazraoui which went narrowingly wide, every Bayern attack was met with a robust defence in the first half as every cross was headed out by either Gabriel or Saliba.

The second half nearly started perfectly for Bayern as Leon Goretzka headed a cross from onto the crossbar with Raya well beaten, Raphael Guerreiro then struck the post thanks to a block from William Saliba. Within 2 minutes they had created a better chance than they had from any attack in the first half.

Arsenal should’ve learnt their lesson as the German side only improved in the second half, with far more control in the middle of the pitch resulting in Sane breaking away in the 63rd minute. Despite Raya parrying away Sane’s cross it was quickly put back in by Guerreiro, with Martinelli losing Kimmich in the box, who left Raya with no chance as his header went into the Arsenal net.

Arsenal never found a response in the second half. The Gunners were simply outclassed by a more experienced European outfit and Arteta’s team will have to wait for next season to rewrite their European history, giving Harry Kane the last laugh.
