Bidding War Set to Develop for St Johnstone Marksman

Uche Ikpeazu An EFL Target Despite Ross County Links

An hour ago, it seemed that St Johnstone frontman Uche Ikpeazu was set for Ross County, with reports circulating that an 18-month contract had been agreed with the Scottish Championship’s bottom-ranked side.

However, recent reports from Darren Witcoop suggest that a deadline day bidding war could ensue, with League Two Bristol Rovers and Barrow amongst a raft of clubs interested in the 30-year-old's signature.

Return of a Familiar Face?

Ikpeazu is no stranger to the many rungs of the English football pyramid - across his career, he has played in the Championship for the likes of Cardiff and Wycombe, League One with Blackpool and Port Vale, and League Two with Cambridge United.

He has never stayed anywhere longer than two seasons, and given that he is in his second campaign with St Johnstone, it was inevitable that he would be linked with a move away eventually.

Though not a prolific goalscorer, the Ugandan international always makes his presence felt to opposition defences, using his physical frame as a battering ram and utilising his electric burst of pace to give defenders a headache.

Regardless of who lands the striker out of Barrow and Bristol Rovers, it would mark Ikpeazu’s return to the EFL after four years abroad - one of the great characters in recent EFL history; many will be pleased to see him back.
