Bleu Day - France Name Official World Cup Squad... and It's F*cking Good

The 2026 World Cup is drawing close, with the top nations starting to roll out their official World Cup squads, the latest being France... and wow, their squad looks special.

We may potentially be seeing a third final involving France in a row, they have a stacked squad which should be competing for the trophy.

Then you actually start looking through the squad properly and it becomes obvious why so many people are tipping France to go all the way again. The depth they have is honestly ridiculous. There are world class players all over the pitch and somehow they still have elite talent left on the bench.

Goalkeepers

In goal, Mike Maignan is the clear number one and rightly so. Ever since Hugo Lloris stepped away from international football, Maignan has stepped in perfectly. He is one of the best shot stoppers in world football and his composure on the ball suits how France want to play now. He has that aura about him too. Big saves in big moments always seem to follow him. Behind him, Brice Samba is a really reliable backup option and Robin Risser has been rewarded after a brilliant breakthrough season in France.

Defenders

The defence might genuinely be the strongest part of the squad though. William Saliba and Ibrahima Konaté together is just unfair physically. Saliba has become one of the calmest defenders in football and barely looks under pressure anymore. Konaté brings aggression and aerial dominance alongside him which balances things perfectly.

Then you add players like Jules Koundé, Dayot Upamecano, Theo Hernandez and Lucas Hernandez and suddenly there is ridiculous depth everywhere. Theo Hernandez especially could be one of the most important players in the tournament because of how attacking he is from left back. France love transitions and having a full back who basically plays like a winger at times is such a weapon.

Midfielders

The midfield is where things get really interesting. Aurélien Tchouaméni will almost certainly be the man everything revolves around in there. He protects the defence brilliantly and allows the attacking players freedom further forward. Alongside him, N’Golo Kante somehow still keeps going. It genuinely feels impossible that he is still covering this much ground after all these years.

Then there is the younger generation coming through. Warren Zaïre-Emery is unbelievably talented and many France fans think this could be the tournament where he properly explodes onto the global stage. Désiré Doué can also play deeper if needed and gives France another technical option in midfield areas.

One of the biggest talking points online though was Eduardo Camavinga missing out. A lot of fans were stunned by that decision because on talent alone he walks into most international squads. Didier Deschamps clearly values balance and structure though, which has always been one of the biggest reasons France perform so well in tournaments.

Attackers

Kylian Mbappé is obviously the headline name. He already feels like one of the greatest World Cup players ever and he is still somehow only entering his prime years. The scary thing is he now has far more support around him than previous tournaments.

Ousmane Dembélé is coming off the best season of his career and finally looks consistent. Michael Olise has become one of the most creative wide players in Europe, Bradley Barcola is electric in transition and Rayan Cherki gives France something completely unpredictable. Then there is Marcus Thuram, who offers a more physical option through the middle if games become scrappy.

That is why France look so dangerous. They can beat teams in different ways. They can dominate possession, kill sides on the counter attack or simply overwhelm teams with individual brilliance.

They also have tournament experience that most countries simply cannot match. Winners in 2018, finalists again in 2022 and now heading into another World Cup with arguably even more attacking talent than before.

If everything clicks, there is every chance we are looking at another France side heading all the way to the final again.
