Bournemouth confirm permanent signing of former Manchester City forward

Bournemouth have announced the permanent signing of Turkish international Enes Unal from Spanish side Getafe on a Permanent deal. The Cherries will pay around £13 million for his services.

The 27 year old originally joined AFC Bournemouth on a 6 month loan deal but impressed manager Andoni Iraola and earned a permanent transfer. The Spaniard spoke of wrapping up a permanent deal for Unal just 3 months into his loan spell.

Between 2021 and 2023, Unal bagged 30 goals in LaLiga and averaged a goal every 193 minutes, a feat only bettered by Ballon d’Or winning Karim Benzema.

Unal has been capped 32 times for his country and was recently called up in their provisional squad for Euro 2024. The former Manchester City forward bagged 2 goals and a further 2 assists while on loan at Bournemouth helping Iraola’s side reach their highest ever league points tally of 48.

The Cherries were knocking on the door of Europe in the final months of the 23/24 campaign but fell short after three consecutive losses to end the season.

New owner Bill Foley believes that we will see the Cherries in Europe in the next five years and Unal is glad to be part of the journey. “The project here is something I was keen to be part of back in January and I think we have great potential together to improve further.”

Unal made a total of 16 appearances for Bournemouth last season with 14 of those coming from the bench. The Turkish targetman proved to be quite the supersub for Iraola getting all of his goal contributions as a substitute.

It is yet to be seen whether Bournemouth will keep hold of starman Dominic Solanke come the start of the new season amid interest from Tottenham, but Unal will most likely be second fiddle once more.
