Bournemouth v Manchester United | Match Preview

09/04/24 16:36

Manchester United travel to the south coast on Saturday to take on Bournemouth at the Vitality stadium in what could be a massive game for both sides' European football hopes.

Bournemouth will look to end the season strongly and taking away a valuable three points here will be huge. Although they currently sit in 12th with 41 points from their 31 games played, they are just seven away from United in 6th. A win taking them just five points away from them. There is still hope for European football next season and a win could put them one step closer to that.

We all know what a win would do for the visitors. A lacklustre season has left them in 6th with 49 points to their names. Although it may seem like the dream for Champions League football is over - or at least slowly fading away - three points is still a must as they look to get a spot in next year's Europa League.

Bournemouth v Manchester United Stats

The Cherries last game ended in a painful defeat at the hands of Luton Town. Carlton Morris scoring in the 90th minute to win it for the Hatters. This loss was Bournemouth’s first in the Premier League since the 24th February where they were beaten by Manchester City. They’ve been on a very good run. Something they will look to get back to against United.

Man United’s last game ended in a 2-2 draw against Liverpool. A late Mohamed Salah penalty breaking the hearts of everyone inside Old Trafford. That result meant that their last win in the Premier League was way back at the start of last month against Everton having drawn against Liverpool and Brentford and lost against Chelsea since then.

Believe it or not, both teams have actually scored the same amount of goals this season having scored 45 goals each.

Bournemouth’s main concern though will be keeping the ball out of the net having conceded 55 goals this season. The bottom four teams and Brentford are the only sides to have conceded more than them.

Since 2015, the two sides have met 13 times with the Red Devils taking the majority of the results. Overall they have won nine of the games with Bournemouth taking just two wins and two draws.

However, Bournemouth will take some confidence into this game having destroyed Man United in the reverse fixture earlier this season. Goals from Dominic Solanke, Phillip Billing and Marcos Senesi shocking United. A day United will wish to forget and one that Bournemouth will look to repeat.

Bournemouth v Manchester United Players to Watch

Bournemouth’s leading man is for sure their player to watch going into this game. Dominic Solanke, as mentioned, has already scored against Manchester United this season and will be eager to add to his tally in this game.

He currently sits joint fourth along with Chelsea’s Cole Palmer in the Premier league top scorers list having netted 16 times this season already. Only Salah, Ollie Watkins and Erling Haaland are ahead of him.

Alternatively, the man to watch for United is surely Kobbie Mainoo. The 18-year old has been a delight to watch this season having broken into the United squad.

A well taken goal in the last game against Liverpool, which was celebrated in cool, calm and collected fashion as well, proving that this kid is the real deal and can really do it all.

Bournemouth v Manchester United Team News

The Cherries have been somewhat lucky this season not having to deal with too many major injuries. As it stands, going into this game, they have no injury concerns with what is looking like a fully fit squad being available.

Chris Mepham missed the last game due to an illness but is looking as though he could return to the squad in this game.

It isn’t looking as pleasing for Manchester United with a number of players still out with injury. Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans missed the last game and are expected to miss this one as well leaving the away side short of options at the back.

Those two joining Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial on United’s injury list.
