Chelsea fans, look away now: recent reports have emerged that Chelsea’s star man Cole Palmer is growing homesick in West London, and misses his friends back home in Manchester.
Reported by dedicated Chelsea journalist Simon Phillips, who boasts a long history of accurate and correct reports that come from in-the-know sources, this news has the potential to derail any semblance of progress under the Clearlake ownership, as Palmer has been their marquee player for the best part of three years.
Sources claim Cole Palmer does not particularly enjoy life down south and misses his friends from back home.

The attacking midfielder, who has 48 goals and 28 assists in two and a half seasons for the Blues, has been one of the Blues’ most consistent players since signing from Manchester City in 2023, and his form even earned him a Ballon d’Or nomination, along with a remarkable 7th-place finish at the award ceremony for best player in the world.
However, Palmer’s recent injury troubles at the Blues have seen him play just 19 times this season, and in spending significant periods on the sidelines thanks to a niggling groin injury, the former Man City player has had plenty of time to reflect.
Despite undergoing groin surgery which kept him out of the team for the best part of two months, Palmer has made a triumphant return to the Chelsea first team, netting three times since his return in early December, and with each game looking closer to the untouchable Cole Palmer that took the Premier League by storm in 2023/24.
However, following Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Brentford at the weekend, the 23-year-old was seen holding and massaging his groin after playing the full 90 minutes, indicating that he is still struggling for full fitness.

As a Manchester lad, spending so much time on the sidelines in what is still an unfamiliar setting in the streets of London is a daunting prospect, and one can only imagine what was going through Palmer’s mind during his two-month lay-off.
Had he remained at City and suffered the same injury, he would have had a much easier time of things - he would have been able to see his family any time, play Xbox with his mates, and most importantly, would’ve been based in a city that he has called home since birth, a place where he feels completely at ease.
At Chelsea though, Palmer needs to travel for hours on end to do any of these things, and with a surgically repaired groin, he wouldn’t have been able to even do this for a number of weeks, becoming trapped in London as a result.

Though the capital city has much to offer, it can be an overawing place, and Palmer’s yearning for home territory is completely understandable.
Simon Phillips’ bombshell only adds fuel to the fire that Palmer could depart Chelsea, and once the news reaches sides with Champions League aspirations, they will be willing to break the bank to acquire such remarkable talent.
If he is indeed to leave Chelsea, then three clubs sit head and shoulders above the rest as major contenders for his signature.
The two Manchester clubs are obvious candidates, as they offer an immediate remedy for his homesickness, but Manchester City would offer a significantly less attractive destination, due in large part to the fact that he wasn’t given much of a chance at the club before thriving with Chelsea just months later.
It is common knowledge that Cole Palmer is a childhood Manchester United fan, and though the Red Devils have been through the wringer of the last few years, they actually sit above Chelsea in the league table.

They would be able to fulfil a lifelong dream of being a Man United player and would also offer the added bonus of a move back to Manchester. When also taking into account their current form and impressive win against Man City, the signing of Palmer could be used as a statement signing, announcing that United are back to eat at the big boys' table.
The final club who could realistically sign Palmer is Liverpool. Based less than an hour away from the Manchester city centre, it would be in close enough proximity to his childhood for Palmer to feel comfortable, and signing for the club would give Palmer the opportunity to play alongside genuine world-class players.
However, it is just these players that make a move to Liverpool less likely - it was just six months ago that the Reds signed Florian Wirtz for well over £100 million, and with the likes of Dominic Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister equally capable of playing behind the striker, competition for places at Anfield is already intense.
Palmer has to be an automatic for whichever side he joins, and at Liverpool, a starting spot is simply not guaranteed. That leaves a return to Manchester the only truly viable option.
Cole Palmer ends up back in Manchester. it's just a question of when... https://t.co/2g82HUqmkS

Of course, we are still in the very early days of the Liam Rosenior era at Chelsea, and it is certainly not too late for the new manager to persuade Palmer to remain at the club, but it’s fair to say that the rumours coming out of West London are not encouraging for the Club World Champions.
It’s extremely unlikely that anything will happen during the January transfer window, but should these rumours and reports persist, a transfer saga for the ages could begin to unfold as we head towards the summer break.
