Brentford Target Dortmund Youngster as Wissa Replacement

Brentford are reportedly showing interest in Borussia Dortmund striker Maximilian Beier, with a view to the 22-year-old replacing current forward Yoane Wissa, who is looking to leave the club this transfer window.

Wissa has been touted as a replacement for Newcastle’s wantaway star Alexander Isak for much of the summer, and his departure from the Bees now looks imminent, after the Democratic Republic of Congo striker was left out of the opening three match squads of the season.

Manager Keith Andrews has already replaced star player Bryan Mbeumo with Bournemouth’s Dango Ouattara, and should Wissa follow him out of the door, Beier presents an exciting new long-term option for the Bees.

Bees Go Up Market

Brentford’s interest in Beier represents a shift in the Bees typical transfer policy - usually always on the lookout for a lower league deal, or a potential option from a club of similar stature, the Dortmund forward offers a different, more star-powered option.

Beier first made waves in Europe two years ago, as he netted 16 times in 35 games to help then club TSG Hoffenheim to a seventh placed finish and a Europa League spot. Finishing fifth in the golden boot standings that year, Dortmund had seen enough to splash £24.6 million on him the following transfer window.

Although second in the BVB pecking order to Serhou Guirassy last season, Beier impressed as a backup option, and netted nine goals across all competitions, while assisting a further five.

Able to play all across the front line, Beier is a versatile option that lends depth to Brentford’s attack, and at just 22-years-old, the German has plenty of time to grow and evolve as a player. With his market value hovering around the £20 million mark, Brentford will be keen to wrap this deal up quickly.
