Bristol City Face Battle to Keep Stalwart

Bristol City are facing an intense battle to keep a hold of long-term defender Zak Vyner on Deadline Day, with Wrexham tabling a third offer of around £2.5m, according to Darren Witcoop. As first revealed by Football Park this week, Zak Vyner has rejected a new deal with the club ahead of the final year of his contract, with today being The Robins' last chance to draw funds from the departure of the right-back.

Vyner, now 29, has been on the books at Ashton Gate for 22 years, stretching back to when he was 7-years-old, but the defender is set to bring a close to that association by the time the transfer window closes this evening.

Vyner to Leave Bristol Today

Today represents Bristol City's final opportunity to draw any funds from a move taking Vyner away from the club, with the 29-year-old long-term defender rejecting a new contract ahead of the final year of his current deal, meaning without a sale today, The Robins run the risk of losing him either on a Bosman ruling in January or on the expiration of his deal next summer.

Vyner will be joining Wrexham, as revealed by Football Park a few days ago, but Bristol City have changed their minds over their valuation of the player - what was thought to be around £2m, a fee met by The Red Dragons a few days ago, is now instead a few hundred thousands over that original fee.

Bristol City have a battle on their hands if they wish to keep their stalwart defender around, but Wrexham are showing no signs of slowing down in their pursuit of Vyner's services.
