Can Dortmund SHOCK Real Madrid?

30/05/24 14:19

On Saturday the biggest football match of the year takes place at Wembley, with fans across the world eagerly anticipating the first whistle. For Borussia Dortmund this will be just their second final since the only time they have won the tournament, back in 1997, while Real Madrid will be looking to win the prestigious trophy for the sixth time in the last 11 years.

Borussia Dortmund Team News

Dortmund have a few injury concerns ahead of this weekend’s massive fixture. Striker Sebastien Haller has been battling an ankle injury and it is unknown whether or not he will be able to make the squad. Both Julien Duranville and Ramy Bensebaini will be unavailable.

Coach Edin Terzic is therefore likely to name the same team that beat Paris Saint-Germain in the last round, with Niclas Fullkrug leading the line. Marco Reus, who is leaving the club in the summer, will most likely have to settle for a place on the bench in his final game.

Real Madrid Team News

The big news coming out of the Real Madrid camp is that Thibaut Courtois is likely to start for just the fifth time this campaign after recovering from a knee injury. His back-up, Andriy Lunin, has performed well in Courtois’ absences but has been suffering from the flu this week and will only make the bench.

Elsewhere in the team, Eder Militao is unlikely to feature as he works his way back to match fitness, and Toni Kroos is likely to start in his final game before he hangs up his boots in the summer.

Earlier this week the Real Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti, confirmed that Aurelien Tchouameni has returned to training, but will not be fit for the final, having suffered a stress in his foot earlier in the month.

Predicted Line-ups

Borussia Dortmund: Kobel, Ryerson, Schlotterbeck, Hummels, Maatsen, Sabitzer, Can, Sancho, Brandt, Adeyemi, Fullkrug

Niclas Fullkrug has scored 12 goals in the Bundesliga this season, one fewer than teammate Donyell Malen. Whether Malen starts ahead of Sancho is uncertain, but he will certainly have an impact off the bench if needed.

Real Madrid: Courtois, Carvajal, Nacho, Rudiger, Mendy, Valverde, Camavinga, Kroos, Bellingham, Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo

Jude Bellingham, La Liga Player of the Year, has managed an incredible 19 goals this season and will be one of the first names on the Real Madrid team sheet. Bellingham spent three seasons at Dortmund, but only managed 12 league goals there, seven fewer than his first season in Spain.
