Atalanta welcomd Liverpool to the Gewiss Stadium with a three goal advantage after an astonishing victory last week.

Liverpool have pulled off several comebacks in European history, but can they do it again?

Atalanta vs Liverpool stats

In terms of head-to-head stats, aside from last week's match, Liverpool and Atalanta have met previously in 2020, when the two sides met in Group D of the Champions League. For the first game, in Italy, Jurgen Klopp's side thrashed La Dea 5-0, as Diogo Jota scored a hat-trick, alongside solo goals from Mohammed Salaha and Sadio Mane.

For the return match though, at a silent Anfield, it was Atalanta who got their revenge. Josip Ilicic and Robin Gosens secured all three points for the Italian side, leaving England as 2-0 winners.

Liverpool went on to get knocked out in the quarter-final, losing to Real Madrid 3-1 on aggregate. Atalanta on the other hand, also lost to Real Madrid, but in the previous round.

So far this season, Atalanta Gianluca Scamacca is Atalanta’s top scorer with 13 goals. Two of those came against Liverpool last week. Behind him is Teun Koopmeiners with 11 goals, and Ademola Lookman with 9.

Aleksey Miranchuk is top of the list when it comes to assists with 8, whilst Charles De Ketelaere has provided five goals in 2023/24.

For Liverpool, Salah is of course the leading scorer with 23 goals, as one of the best forwards in the world. Darwin Nunez is close behind with 18, during his best season yet as a Liverpool player. Jota and Cody Gakpo both have 14 goals. Nunez has the most assists for Liverpool with 13, Salah is on 12 and Trent Alexander-Arnold with 9.

Atalanta vs Liverpool Standings

In the Serie A this season, they have a big task on their hands if they want to qualify for the Champions League. They’re currently 6th, on 50 points, 5 behind Roma. This season, Liverpool are still in the running of the Premier League title, which would be their second since the competition began. However, they’re facing fierce competition from Manchester City and Arsenal. If they want to stand a strong chance of being crowned champions, they’ll have to win almost all of their remaining games.
