Can Manchester United put an end to their noisy neighbour’s celebrations?
The 2023-24 FA Cup final takes place at Wembley on Saturday in a repeat of last year’s Manchester derby final. If reports are to be believed, this could be Erik ten Hag’s last game in charge of Manchester United and so winning the cup will be even more meaningful. United’s local rivals Manchester City enter Saturday looking to become the first men’s team to win back-to-back doubles after securing a historic fourth straight Premier League title.

Head to head
Manchester City finished their season enjoying a 3-1 win over West Ham United, thanks to two goals from Phil Foden and a third added by Rodri, on their way to a fourth successive league title.
United ended their disappointing Premier League campaign on a high with a 2-0 win at Brighton, fittingly with this season’s standout performers Diogo Dalot and Rasmus Hojlund getting on the score sheet.
Against their rivals however, you would not favour United to do so well. Manchester City have won all of the last three games including last year’s version of this final, featuring the infamous Ilkay Gundogan goal after just 12 seconds.

Team news
Erik ten Hag will again be without Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia due to injury, with the England pair being close to a return and of course selected to the provisional Euros squad, but not yet fit for the FA Cup final.
United may get a boost with Victor Lindelof, Mason Mount and Anthony Martial being available to play in some form.
City’s first-choice goalkeeper Ederson has been ruled out with the fractured eye he suffered in their game against Tottenham, Stefan Ortega will return between the posts, as he has done throughout City’s cup run.
Player to watch
This should come as no surprise to any as, rightfully so, it’s the name on almost everyone’s tongue right now. Phil Foden is of course the player to watch this match. The newly crowned Premier League Player of the Season finished the 2023-24 campaign with 27 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, with 19 of those goals and eight assists coming in the Premier League.
As if this did not sound good enough already, three of those goals were scored in the Manchester derby with the first coming in City’s 3-0 win at Old Trafford in October before a brace in the reverse fixture in March. Expect more to come in Saturday’s final from a player who looks almost unstoppable right now.
