Can the Dons turn their season around? MK Dons vs Walsall Preview
This Saturday’s EFL League Two tie sees MK Dons take on Walsall, two teams at either end of the table looking to maintain and kickstart their seasons respectively.
Life hasn’t been easy for MK Dons in their second season back in EFL League Two. Sitting in 19th with 3 points, a single win against fellow early strugglers, Carlisle, and three losses. Despite their lowly position they have only shipped 5 goals, a lot less than many around them.
On the other hand, high flyers Walsall couldn’t have had much better of a start. Currently in 2nd with three wins from four and 9 points including an impressive 4-0 win away at Swindon. They are joint third highest scorers in the league with 7 goals which is paired with a tight defence that has only conceded twice.
The sides have faced each other 27 times since 2004 due to them often competing in the same division. Walsall have won 7 times, MK Dons have won 10 times and the fixture has ended up a draw on 10 occasions.
In eight meetings since 2015 Walsall have only been able to win once. Last season's fixtures saw a 0-0 draw in Walsall. And MK Dons emphatically won 5-0 at home.
Alex Gilbey - 2 goals Joe Tomlinson - 1 goal Callum Hendry - 1 goal
Jamille Matt - 2 goals Taylor Allen - 2 goals Nathan Lowe - 1 goal Albert Adomah - 1 goal Josh Gordon - 1 goal
MK Dons: Tom McGill, Laurence Maguire, Luke Offord, Sam Sherring, Connor Lemonheigh-Evans, Aaron Nemane, Joe Tomlinson, Tom Carroll, Stephen Wearne, Alex Gilbey, Callum Hendry.
Walsall: Tommy Simkin, Taylor Allen, Oisin McEntee, David Okagbue, Liam Gordon, Connor Barrett, Charlie Lakin, Ryan Stirk, Jamie Jellis, Nathan Lowe, Jamille Matt
Aged just 18, frontman Lowe has hit the ground running for the Saddlers on loan from Stoke City. After making two appearances from the bench, he scored in his most recent league cameo against Cheltenham. Lowe could be set to finally start after Josh Gordon was forced off after 18 minutes last Saturday, with the teenager replacing him. And after adding his two goals in the league cup against Huddersfield to the equation, he is certainly one to look out for.
This fixture will kick off on Saturday 7th September at 15:00pm, it will be televised on the Sky Sports + app or red button.
