Canada 6-0 Qatar - 2026 World Cup Match Report and Player Ratings

Canada took on Qatar at the BC Place Stadium in Vancouver to close off the second round of fixtures in Group B. It was a thrashing from Jesse Marsch's side who now look poised to qualify for the knockout rounds.

Canada began the game strongly from the first whistle, dominating possession. It took just 17 minutes for Southampton striker Cyle Larin to find the back of the net, pouncing off an error from Qatar goalkeeper Mahmud Abunada. Shortly afterwards, Canada got their second through Jonathan David after some brilliant trickery from Tajon Buchanan to set up the goal.

After the first hydration break, things went from bad to worse for Qatar. Tajon Buchanan burst towards the edge of the box and was subsequently brought down by Qatar full-back Homam Elamin. The orignal decision was a penalty and a yellow card. However, after VAR intervention, it was found that the challenge was outside of the area, and it was a clear denial of a goal opportunity, Elamin was awarded a red card.

As the half went on, Canada did not hold back. In stoppage time, just before the break, Tajon Buchanan broke into the box again with intent. Finding Alistair Johnston on the overlap, the Celtic fullback clipped the ball to the far post, and after another blunder from Abunada, Jonathan David grabbed his second of the match.

Canada continued to mount pressure after the break, continuing where they left off. After a VAR check, Jesse Marsch's side were denied a penalty in the 50th minute, but this did not deter them.

Qatar continued to be reckless in challenges, and after another VAR check, Assim Madibo was handed a red card, bringing Julen Lopetegui's side down to nine men.

Just after the hour mark, Qatar conceded a free kick. Substitute Nathan Saliba stepped up to curl the ball in from 25 yards, providing Canada with their fourth.

Afer the hydration break, Canada grabbed their fifth. Buchanan danced into the box again for Canada, whipping the ball into the penalty area. After a deflection, Mohammad Al Mannai put the ball into the back of his own net. 5-0 Canada.

In stoppage time, Jonathan David grabbed his third to top off a fantastic display in Vancouver and Canada made it 6.

The Juventus striker was on fire today for Canada, grabbing a hat-trick as the side soared to victory.

Three very well executed goals took his tally to 42 for Canada, further widening the gap between him and the rest of the nation's goalscorers.

David will be crucial as Canada look to qualify for the knockout rounds of the World Cup for the first time in history.

Bad Day In The Office - Homam Elamin

The left-back saw red after a reckless challenge on Buchanan, and with the side already two goals down at the time of his dismissal, his early shower put the game to bed just 30 minutes in.

Qatar have a mountain to climb now, and Elamin may have played his last ever World Cup match.
