Spurs Relegation Fight To Go To Last Day After Chelsea Loss

Tottenham's fear of relegation is not quite over yet and will go to the last match of the season after Roberto De Zerbi's side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Spurs needed at least a draw to confirm safety in the Premier League, and nearly got off to the perfect start as forward Mathys Tel's header smashed off the post.

With the mood low at Stamford Bridge and a win crucial after not tasting victory in the Premier League since early March, Chelsea needed a strong start against their London rivals, and they found it through Enzo Fernandez. Who struck from distance into the bottom corner to give Chelsea the lead midway through the first half.

The Chelsea skipper for the night came so close to adding his and his team's second just minutes later, striking the post with a free-kick as Chelsea ended the first half strongly.

Needing a response, Spurs continued to struggle for control in the opening stages of the second period. However, De Zerbi's team registered their first shot on target as Richarlison headed towards goal but his effort was well saved by Robert Sanchez.

However, their momentum would be short lived, as Chelsea would find their second goal to double the lead through Andrey Santos on 67 minutes. The young Brazilian midfielder slotted home his first Premier League goal to finish off a fine team move.

Tottenham would restore hope five minutes later, as Richarlison pulled a goal back for his side, tapping in at the back post from close range after a cross by Pedro Porro found the Brazilian for his 11th Premier League goal of the season.

However, they failed to find the crucial equaliser they needed, meaning that Spurs stay just two points ahead of West Ham, and the chance of an unpredicdent relegation to the second tier could still occur on the final day of the 25/26 Premier League season.

Randal Kolo Muani's poor loan spell in North London continued at Stamford Bridge as the French forward struggled in attack, and carelessly gave the ball away in the buildup to Chelsea's second goal. Which proved to be the winner.
